At what age would you allow your child to wear nail polish?

I've always painted my daughter's nails for her. She just recently started asking me if she could paint them herself. I think she is to young. I didn't have my nails painted until I was at least 14 or 15. I've acumulated quite a variety in the colors, because I like to match my nails with my outfits. I know this is probably why she wants to paint hers. I don't always have the time to do hers. Should I allow her to do it herself?

If its not doing her any harm why not. At least its nothing that won't come off. I paint my daughters toe nails all the time. I'm not too crazy about her finger nails being painted b/c I know she would just eat it off.

My daughter is six and I just started letting her paint her own nails. I don't think it is a big deal at all, she loves doing it and telling people that she painted them herself!!

I think nail polish is much different than makeup on girls. I wouldn't have them done professionally until she was probably 14 or so, but there's nothing wrong with putting on some fun colors at home. I think around 3 or so is when girls really start wanting to do dressup stuff, and polish goes along with that. I wouldn't do fake nails or anything like that, but a little spot of color is fine.

I would let my daughter wear very pale colors at any age. I wore it when I was very little and my little cousins always do theirs. I think it's cute as a dumplin'. Now I wouldn't do red and dark red and black, etc...I'd say 16-18 for those colors.

Well my daughters started painting their nails when they were around 10 years of age but not to go to school with them painted as this was not allowed at school, but on Friday nights we would all sit down and paints our nails, it was a lovely way to spend the night just with my daughters.

My daughter is 3 and she has painted nails all the time. I only paint them the soft pastel colors, but she loves it and I think it looks so cute.

There are nail polishes that are non-toxic being sold in many shops these days. These are for the girls who are starting to become conscious with fashion. I don't have anything against moms allowing their kids to start young with nail polishes -- I actually think the kids' nails are cute when polished, but then perhaps should I have a girl in the future, I would like for her to not rush into being an adolescent. I want her to enjoy her childhood. Hehe. Daughters tend to follow their moms' ways, so that's why she's becoming interested in it. No problem with the age, just let her use the safe nail polish. Happy myLotting!

First, how old is she?
I didn't mind doing my daughters nails when she was young. We usually reserved it for dressup playtime, but she just wanted to do what mom did. When she was very young & wanted to do it herself, I just got some of the fake kind you can get for kids. The colors were little more than a pink tint but it peeled off just like dried elmers glue or could be washed off with soap & water. She got to play & get the practice for future use, without as many of the messes that can go along with little girls painting their own nails. :D

The road to hell is not coated in nail polish.
My 10 and 7 year old daughters wear nail polish and apply it themselves. They use the non-toxic kind for now, since their three-year-old brother likes to get into their stuff. The only time they're not allowed to wear it is during cheerleading season, since it's against the rules (in case of injury - we have to be able to check capillary refill at the nailbed).
If it's one of the girls in your photo, then I'd say they look well old enough and capable enough of doing it themselves. They might not get it perfect, but that's what being a kid is about; learning to do things themselves. It's a small thing, and as my mom says "choose your battles wisely".
