As everyone here or most everyone has heard that a terrible tragedy occurred at Virginia Tech where a killer shot and killed at least 33 people, including himself. It was a horrible act that this person committed. It is all over the news and if you have not heard, you can go to CNN's website to hear more about this very sad day. It is so sad to hear all these innocent students were killed and my heart goes out to them, their families, friends and the whole community there at school and in the state. I think we all should take a moment sometime today or tonight to say a prayer for the ones who lost their lives as well as the families of the deceased and friends and everyone there. It will be a very difficult time for them and they will need all of our thoughts and prayers.

I am glad that you are praying and thinking about everyone there as well. You are such a wonderful and caring person and knew that you would think of them. I did not know about this til about 3:30 after my students had left for the day. It was just shocking and very sad. I will probably watch the news most of the evening.

I do not think that I could ever get over something like that if it were to happen where I work or at any school that I was at. It had to be horrifying and shocking and the students and families there will need counseling. It was very sad.

I have already said prayers for these poor kids and their families. What was going through that guy's mind? How can he just shoot people without even a second thought? How cruel and heartless could he be?

Hi Tammy. Glad to hear that you are praying for them as well as I can not even imagine how terrified the students were when this happened. It was so sad that these students lost their lives and will miss out on all the wonderful things they were looking forward to in life. Obviously this person was very sick and very unstable and had mental health issues.

This really tore my heart out. I have friends with kids there and still have been unable to make contact.
Virginia is my home, I was born and raised there. I have family that attended this school. It is normally a peaceful place and is surrounded by beauty.
Thank you for calling for a moment of silence and prayers.

It tore my heart out tremendously as it hurts to hear such a horrible thing happen to innocent and wonderful people. Those kids had a wonderful life ahead of them and a good career and more and this sick individual took that away from them and their families and friends. I hope that your friends and their kids are safe and home together. My thoughts and prayers are with your family and friends and their families.

Same here. I used to teach at a state university and always had a sense of dread about someone becoming unbalanced and the damage that they could do. It sadly came true today in VA.

Whether we work in a school or at our jobs, there is always a possibility of something like this could happen. Unfortunately it did come true today and in a wonderful school and community. These children had such promising careers and lives ahead of them that they will not get to enjoy because of this person. It was just horrible to hear about this and all the lives that were lost because of this sick person. I am an instructor myself and work with students so I know this could happen where I work too. Thank you for responding.

We've been watching the story lines about this since yesterday and it really touches the heart. I can't even begin to imagine what those affected went/are going through. My heart goes out to the families of the less fortunate. My thoughts and prayers are with those who are wounded. They'll have a constant reminder of this sad day in history.
I want to post a link to the Guest Book that has been set up to leave prayers. I hope it's not against the TOS, but I think it's very valid to this post. Thanks to a boardy from another forum for this link.

I agree - this is such an horrible event and I will keep the people and their families in my mind and thoughts. noone should have to go through this, and noone should have to fear getting shot and ordinary day at school. The world is just not safe anymore - something needs to be done!

My first reaction was to respond with a blank ''silent' post but that is not allowed. So in remembrance of the victims and their families and friends.

It is a sad, sad day, indeed. It brought to my mind my own alma mater-- UT Austin-- where a fellow named Charles Whitman killed 14 and injured 30-some during a similar incident in 1966, as a result of which the 28th floor observation deck on the campus "Main Building" was permanently closed.
Life is such a fragile and fleeting thing... and so often punctuated by completely meaningless events. My heart goes out to all those directly affected by this tragic event. I have no way to even begin to imagine how it must feel...

I've heard about it too. It has been one of the major news these days especially because, as you may know, a Romanian teacher was killed in the masacre.
It's terrible everything that happened and from what I've heard, it is the most tragic event that happened in an American school.
As you said, it will be a very hard time for everyone who was involved or has lost someone dear during this horrible event.
We shall all keep them in our prayers.

I don't have cable. Shoot, I don't even have a tv so I get all my news online because I would rather hear it from real people than from the media. It was real coming from you.
Thanks for sharing.
I don't know what's wrong with us as a people. What must God be thinking right now?

It was really horrible and what shocks me the most is he been planning that for awhile. I don't know what can drive a person to do that, but he had problems that he wanted to get out of his chest and he really out did himself.
