Don't you hate Plato?

I think he was an oportunist that has stolen works from Ptlemaeus and Socrates, and managed it (censored, changed and such) to give birth to theories thata can be compared to nazi (against democracy, against women, against aliens, against original syncopated music, and all kind of exopressions he considered not good).

I'm sorry but wasn't Plato of the same school as Socrates? Thus, if he stole or it appears as if he stole his Soc. and Ple. material, it must be because he is of the same mind set and he studied the theories put forth by them especially Socrates.

Socrates was condamned and executed for his words. Plato was hailed in the best universities of the moment and nearly diminished by european culture. Don't you find something must be wrong?

I think Plato distorted Socrates teachings to get them popular and policically correct, and that is why the power of the moment acted so different with him than with Socrates.

Mmmm... I don't know if you are understanding me well. I hate censorship and I don't think nobody has to suffer for his thoughts or teachings. What I mean is that Socrates should not be executed, and if his executors after that followed Plato is because what he said was not the same. I ever can imagine Plato could be implied in making his teacher disappear to have the chance to take proffit on his teachings, adapting them to what politics wanted. I can't imagine Socrates to be against democracy, as Plato was.

Neither Plato or Socrates are my favorites but they did lay the path for some of my more favorite Philosophers i.e. Cicero, Nietzsche, Descartes, etc. those people are much better and are really interesting, smart, insightful, etc. Orators and Philosophers. Great posts though, certainly one of the best I have answered to date on here. Good job.

Sure but we can't take anything from Plato. He wasn't even that good of a Philo. but he did make contributions, enough contributions not to be marginalized, dismissed, ignored, etc. Let's give him some credit. As far as Nietz. he will always be tops, regardless of what some thought of him then and now, at least in my book. Nietz. is in a different class....

I don't think I hate the man because I don't think he stole anything. He simple took their ideas and added more stuff into them. I think that is how it is nowadays.

What philo. freedoms did he steal? Please. You give to much credit to one person and not enough to another....you shift things in one direction totally and totally neglect every, every, every thing else..... For some reason you think Plato did something wrong, I contend the man did nothing but carry on where one person stopped.....he carried on in the best manner that he could, and he clearly achieved his objective or you wouldn't have posted this topic.... Oh, and Philosophy began and ended with Fredrich N.? How would that be the case? I don't see it - but uh -ok. All the best, Inallduetime
