When can you call a person your friend

When we talk about someone to a third person we generally refer the person as our "friend". But how can we decide when we can consider a person our friend. Is only knowing someone or talking to someone makes the person our friend...

jaizdeep I think friend is not just one another word...For me friend is someone very special a person who is there when u need him A person u can share all your life and emotions with..A person who understands u and is with u in our good and bad times too So for me...

mridula123 well...we generally refer to anyone we know as friends..i mean..i do it atleast..but a true friend as i expect them to be..is very hard to get..i dont think i have anyone to be called as true friend..but i do have a couple of best friends..nowadays, its tough...
