Hi.. I am having a nearly-dying power supply 450W. Can I replace it with a power supply with higher wattage? If yes, will the new power supply consume much electricity?

rigormortus i got a hp pavilion a1410n and looked all over the place to see if i can replace the 300w power supply that it came with with a 500w power supply i have replaced the cpu with a amd athlon 64 x2 dual core 4600+ and wanting to get a evga geforce 9600 gt if so...

rigormortus i got a piece of crap hp pavilion a1410n tower with a amd 64 x2 ual core 4600+ put in it but wanting to know if i can get a 500w power supply to fit inside and if so which one can i use
