Arunima Singh @Shasha_ We need to help them in a way that they get right help to be independent and live with dignity. I don't mind giving food to someone in need, but then it should not become habit. Everyone has to earn their food.

Anna You did the right think giving him some food. May be you should warm him that someone wants to call the police, to find another place and you could give him some food in the future if he is not too far.

Arunima Singh Unfortunate one but then we can't deny that it's there. You have to call the authorities who can help him. I think that your neighbour is right in a way. We have to help them but not encourage them.

Agatha C. I think you've done the right thing. Maybe the next thing you can do to help him is to look up local homeless shelters or charities or food banks that may be able to provide assistance to him.
