How powerful is the ring?

I just can't understand why so many human want this ring. It can only make someone invisible. It's not so overwhelming power to human, is it?

shuoqi In the movie " Lord of the rings",the ring can give you the power to control the world. On the contrary,the ring can expose the human's inner evil, and control them,strengthen them. This also make people want to get the ring.
