Whose life will you save? Mom or Spouse

If someone paints a house in 4 hours and someone else paints the house in 6 hours, if they work together how long will it take them to paint the house? Please explain your answer. I am baffled. OH, this is not a homework question....

TheEqualizer Kmilliron is right. I'll try to explain in a different way. Think of the house as a square. For painter 1 to paint the square it will take 4 hours. So divide the square in 4. 1 hour of painting, 1/4 painted. 2 hours of painting, 1/2 painted. Get the picture?...
