can you listen to music and work at the same time?

i want to hear different people's opinions on this. i can listen to music and study/revise/do homework etc. but some of my friends say that music just distracts them while they are working. i personally think it helps me...

tvarwig I love music and I only listen to music that I like, and I have a pretty narrow scope of what I like, mostly classical music. But I can't listen to music and work because I find myself listening to the music and not working.
