How long can a cat live?

So, is cat similar to dog, the maximum lifetime for dog is around 14 to 16 years. What about cats? Are they only live around 14 years of age too?

yodayoda23 I just had to have my cat put down on the weekend and he lived to be 23 1/2 yrs old. Probably could have gone forever though. He only had a bit of arthritis in his back end and he had a mouth full of teeth still, unfortunatly he had a stroke on the Friday and...
