What can you do about smelly feet?

I seldom use closed shoes for the reason of smelly feet. I don't know how to fight it, I even tried putting foot powder but doesn't give me good results. Any tips on avoiding having smelly feet? The only solution that I can think...

wittynet @Albert1989, use alum. It's very effective. Make your own liquid alum to ensure it's pure alum.
