Why do they sterilize the needle for lethal injections?

SoulBandit Hmmmmm... I could think of a million questions like this.... For example why does a person get executed for killing 4 people but a person who sets fire to a cabin full of people "accidentally" goes free with only 2-5 years in prison.?

I'm just wondering. I mean it's not like they're going to get an infection from the needle..they're going to die in a few minutes, so why do they do the alcohol swab? Is it just a habit? They don't even know? It just seems...

SoulBandit Hmmmm..... I have a conspiracy theory: maybe the people dont actually die because the government sets it up because they dont beleive in the death penalty but the criminal fakes their death and they are taken to a top-secret prison somewhere? I know it seems...
