Love and letting go

What's your take on this line: "If you really love a person, then you will let that person go" do any of you believe in it? when does it apply?

Texas100 Well yeah I think i believe on that because I used to live in Houston,Tx . I loved a guy there but we lefth to mexico I couldn' do nothing i had to let him go.
