In todays world how rational is it to practice a religion?

We live in a world so different than the one that gave birth to religion. Do we or do we not need to believe in a power that we cannot comprehend? Is religion really helping us as a society or is it hindering us?

agent729 yes but do you think "religion" is needed in todays society? we dont need to pray to "god" in order for our crops to grow or for aunt sally to get better. Things happen and since we are more knowledgable about our world than 1000 years ago, should we still...
