I don't think that there is a problem of teaching kids to save money, it will make them know the value of money. They can have their own aims in life, either to buy toys or clothes.

When you go shoppings with them you can teach them to compare prices (and ingredients by the way). They will follow your attitude if they see it makes sense.

My parents used to told me when I was still a kid to save the money that I have. And that I shouldn't spend it to unnecessary things. They taught me to become thrifty somehow and how to manage my money well. :)

I will say though since I live in the states perhaps having credit here is more important here then in the Philippines. Here you cannot even rent an apartment without having someone run your credit. Then if they find out you have no credit history or a bad one...

Kids learn from what they see, so if you're consistently saving, they will pick it up. Besides that, you can open a savings account for them, get them coin banks, help them count money and so on at a really early age. You don't have to say as much as you have...
