cutepenguin That's a lot of work that you've had to do! We've been cutting back, but even so, a house would cost so much that there's no way we could get a mortgage. We could afford property in another city but we can't work anywhere else, so we're kind of stuck.

cutepenguin Um. Well, anything, new or secondhand, costs over a million on this side of the city. Farther away, it's just under a million. You have to drive a while to get to anything approaching affordable.

cutepenguin Yes, it feels like we're pretty much priced out of the market. We're lucky that the place we are living right now is actually nice with good neighbours - I hope you get that soon too.

cutepenguin It makes it hard to get anywhere, because even if you know you can do the job, you can't show them this because you don't have a degree so they won't even interview people.

cutepenguin The less money part is going to be hard. The hours are better, though, and the work is more interesting. But the less money is going to require some work to recover from.
