Is anyone else concerned about safety w/ schools that have only 1 entrance/exit?

I moved to North Carolina last May from Florida. I cannot believe the lack of safety for our children with the new school my son attends. It's an elementary school to boot! There is only 1 entrance/exit. Who in their right mind...
