How do you establish network between Windows and Linux?

Here is my problem here. Does anyone have any idea how to establish network between a Windows operated computer system and a Linux Operated one? I mean a network where they can share files. How can it be bridged the gap on this...

henryfranz2005 of course it is free. It's linux and is under the GNU - General Public License which means it can be modified and downloaded for everyone. Though i use linux, I don't connect my computers through samba. :)
