Is their a cure for depression?

Depression is like a disease that menace or society. Almost all the people I know suffers from depression. I want to help them but I don't know how, is their a cure for this condition?

irishmom79 Thanks Laydee! I am one of the 50% that antidepressants wither do not work for at all,have advers affects or only work about 3 months and then do not work! Now I ma left with a weight gain from 9 yrs of trying different ones.I was 150 now am 197 down from 226...
