Why are my zucchini getting mushy before they grow more than a few inches long?

The plant looks healthy, I can't see any bugs. However, the zucchini are growoing to about 3-5 inches long, then turning yellow-brown and mushy. Does anyone have any suggestions on what may be causing this and how I can prevent...
