snowy I don't remember my old one making weird noises either..it was old as well. One day it just stopped draining water out though so of course it needed to be replaced. It was about 20 years old.

hotsummer laptop is good because you can do much more. phone is limiting. laptop is good for work also. though i prefer a phone as i don't need a laptop for work or any other purpose it serves.
