williamjisir They can be both used orally or literally. It depends on your habit of using these two words. I love to use both and I don't see much difference while I chat with foreign colleagues.

laowai I'm a little too scared to take a bike ride around China. I've seen too many crazy drivers here in Shenzhen and too many accidents. I try to avoid being on roads as much as possible.
