What is an appropriate treatment for hiccups?

As far as I know, hiccup is influenced by lack of oxygen in the brain. Though, there are a lot of traditional people claim that you just need to drink a lot of fluid to remove the hiccup. Any idea on how to stop it?

lovebugg the best way to get rid of hiccups is to drink water upside down or to eat some salt. it always gets rid of my hiccups
