My daughter and I were out shopping today and stopped in at Subway to get a sandwich to take home. I thought it would be fewer calories than McDonald's. When I got home, just for kicks, I looked up the calories for Subway online....

mapiklfish1 Well, if I have to avoid all those foods, I'm afraid I wouldn't stay on that diet long at all. I think cutting portions and trying to watch the calories while increasing exercise is my best bet. *Sigh* I know I should drink a LOT more water but I just don't...

mapiklfish1 No, I did not look up the fat because I just wanted to know the total calories. It did list how much fat was in it.

mapiklfish1 I agree with you there. All things in moderation. A stead diet of burgers would probably not be a good thing but then a stead diet of only subs is probably not good either. We need to add in the fruits and veggies as well.

mapiklfish1 I don't think the sauces and condiments are necessarilly unhealthy but they do contain calories. I just read, for instance, that for heartburn, you should take a teaspoon to a tablespoon of mustard.

mapiklfish1 I have not seen Quizno's on list but then I didn't really look for it but, yes, it probably would have more calories. Guess then the only reason to go to the sandwiches vs. the burgers is just because you like sandwiches more than burgers.

mapiklfish1 I agree. The burger joints are coming out with healthier alternatives to the burgers too. Most of them have salads now and you can get your chicken grilled instead of fried. Just depends on what you get.

mapiklfish1 I haven't tried the pizza sub. I'm kind of surprised my daughter didn't order it as she loves pizza! Sounds good to me, the fries on the side.

mapiklfish1 I would have to agree. My daughter had just turkey, bread and a little shredded cheddar cheese so her's was probably pretty low in calories. If I'm going to consume over 800 calories, though, I'd just as soon have the burger and fries. Even with the chicken...

mapiklfish1 Yes, the meatball one is something like 1700 calories but not sure if that is 6" or 12". I had a 6". I'm also not sure how much more healthy Subway really is unless you just get a veggies sandwich but then you could just get a salad at McDonald's with no meat....

mapiklfish1 It did actually have quite a bit of meat. The website does have the calories broken down into calories from fat as well but I didn't check that.

mapiklfish1 Right. They make it sound like all their sandwiches are better than burgers and that isn't true. If I have to eat a sandwich without mayo or anything else on it, (dry bread) I'll pass. I'd rather have a salad or soup.

mapiklfish1 Actually, I would have rather had a Big & Tasty than the sub. I'm not thrilled with Subway subs. They're expensive and there isn't much in them. I just thought I was saving calories.

mapiklfish1 I got a coldcut sub on whole wheat. It was probably even more than the calories count I found because I put mayo and mustard on it with extra cheese. The extra cheese was a really small piece and they don't put much cheese on it anyway.
