Question about buying a domain name

How do you prevent people from knowing your name when you buy a domain name? My friend told me that people can find out your information and home address when you buy a domain. Is it true? Can I prevent this? Thanks!

panda1 I'm not familiar with other domain registrars, so you may be able to do it for free. I use Godaddy and it does cost money ($8.99/year). But I trust Godaddy and have never had any issues with private registration. When you're purchasing your domain and/or...

panda1 I only use Godaddy for registering domains. I have never had an issue with the company or product. I do however transfer my domains hosting to Bluehost. There I host all my domains. Never had a problem with Godaddy doing so. But I do here they have good...
