the last guy that posted has great idea's definatly listen to him. You should also have any house you are seriously looking at checked out for plumming, electrical, foundation, roofing and the septic system all these things may look ok and may even pass inspection but could cause you BIG problems in a short amount of time. have it all checked out by a professinol and good luck

Drive by the house at night, like when most people are going to bed. A lot of places look great during the day, but a whole different element of people may come out at night!! Check the schools out, are they good schools if you have kids. Drive through the whole neighborhood and see what it's like. Are people outside? What are the other houses like?

The house should be leak proof. It should have concealed wiring. It should have sufficient natural light inside the rooms and specially in the kitchen.Kitchen and rooms should be well ventilated. Surrounding garden space should be available. The ground should have elevation to south and gradual fall to north. The kitchen should be located in the south east portion of the house. main door should open to North/east/west and not to South

I suggest that you look into the chosen house's proximity to schools, police, markets and hospitals. We cannot do without these institutions. Try to see also if your house is secured from possible theft or if your neighborhood can be trusted.
As for the housing unit, check the plumbings, water sources, pest problems etc. It would be best if you can ask what problems previous owners encountered that prompt them to seld the property.
