Would you want your kids to be concentrating on their studies or also spend time

When I was in college, i was active in extracurricular activities and was an officer of an organization. I didnt find it as a hindrance to my studies but it actually made my life in school more interesting and i really learned a lot that i wasnt able to learn in the classrooms. But i have some friends before that would rather concentrate on their studies and not have extracurricular activities because they say it might affect their studies. How about you? Would you prefer your kids to join in extracurricular activities while studying or just concentrate on their studies? Do you think it is more effective?

I believe that it should be balanced and if I have my way I want my child to be both active in academic and extra curricular activities. No problem though if he/she choses to be active in one field only, my main concern is that the child finishes school. Being in a family whose members are all academically inclined but not active in physical extra curricular activities, I've long accepted that being well-rounded is not for everyone. What's important is maximizing where we are good at, be it academic or non-academic.

Kids have to decide what is best for them. That is what going to college is all about. It is their first taste of freedom. If they feel that they can handle the extra activities, that is great. It is a very good idea for them to be well rounded. College is more than just learning in the classroom it is a whole experience of a lot of different things. They can suffer burn out if they constantly study all the time and never take a break and have fun. But their school work should always come first.

I want my kid to be very active in studies and in extracurricular activities becoz my brother who used to be a basketball player at state level dost not used to have interest in books and always he used to be in basket ball court is now in a good position as a government emploier who got his job in a sports quoata and many other friends of his were surprised with his succes in a very short period of time. So nowa days children should be into every aspects and they help them in their future.

I personally believe that extra curiccular activities lead to a more well rounded person, I have seen so many people that are book smart but have no knowledge of how to fix snything or how to even chanmge a tire. I think the parents should let their children have some extras, but they do need to keep doing well in thier studies at the same time. If their studies are falling behing make them cut an extra.

I think other activites besides school work would help them to think better and be able to release engery and stress. Plus exercise if that is what you mean is really good for you anyone of any age! So I'd say yes let them study, make sure grades are good enough and then sure let them have fun! I never did sports or anything my choice but still I think its a good idea to have fun of some sort. Even just playing chess, being on the newspaper its all great!

you have to be an allrounder in all fields.paticipatin in extracurricular activities makes u a complete person.it increases ur horizon and makes u more social.i strongly in favour that un shud imbibe the habit to participate in extracurricular activites then just be a book worm.

Well I must say it depends people to people or say child to child . One child can be good at sports and bad at studies, and one can be good at studies but bad at sports..! I guess... you know "alrounders" are hard to find..! So if your child is interested in sports then let him go with the sports and if he is comfortable with the classroom study then let him go with it.! But for this the first thing you'll be needing is to know your child throughly..! Then you can give him what he exactly wants!! Best of luck!!

I think I got the most education from my extra curriculars in college, and high school. But looking back, I do wish that I'd spent more time and effort on my schoolwork, and chosen a better field to study. Maybe I would have gotten more from my education if I had done that.

Just like you I am active in extra curricular activities and the same time maintaining my academic standing from elementary to college. I love sports, I even joined cheering competitions and dance competitions specially during my high school years. I think it is more advantageous for a child or person to balance things. Like being active in extra curricular activities and at the same time maintaining the academic performance. But of course this depends largely to the person's ability to handle both. If one is not doing that good in academic, I suggests, he/she should spend more time in it.

formal education and finding a skill is a different thing, and in my opinion, having a skill is the most important thing in our life. I had studied in nursing scholl, but my skill is in selling and management. what a different world. children are amazing. they know how to act sincerely. funny of course. so, let them play as much they can afford, but dicipline is also needed. and kids know if we want some dicipline area in their time. show them what it is and they copycat. So never show them the bad thing

I would loved to hear that my kids are paying much attention with their studies. Just invested well education that themselves would benifited in the future. This are the goals majority of the parents whom the only can offer that can't be stolen by others. So children there, hope you'll find yourself doing it so.

I personally think that both high school and college is about to "whole experience" and not just about studying. I think it is completely possible to do both, and what I really would want for my child, would be for him to have fun, enjoy himself, make life lasting friendships, find love and study hard. It is not that long ago that I myself was in college, and I sure did it all. - I wrote for two college newspapers - one student run, and one run by the comm department. - I had a parttime job at the college related to my field. - I was the secretary of the International Student Organization - I was a part of a women in leadership program - I participated in political discussions and protests at my college and in Washington D.C. On top of it all I had a boyfriend....and later a baby :) (Now he is my husband, and we have two great sons) My point is you can definitely do it all and get good grades too. I graduated in three years with a 3.9 GPA. I therefore say, please encourage your "children" to enjoy their high school and college years, because they will never get them back. Yes I made mistakes, and yes I had bad days, but when you are strong allround, and you feel comfortable at what you are doing, you will be able to withstand the pressure much better, and I believe that you will come out with much more life experience than if you just had your head in the book all those years.
