Freecycle is a group on yahoo where people offer free things for others who are willing to just go and pick them up. How many of you use freecycle? Have you ever picked up something from someone on it before? How safe is it? Your going to someones house to pick up things from their front door or even having to knock and someone having to give you the stuff. Is it safe?

It's really safe actually. I just met a really great lady who gave me a ton of perennials for my garden on Sunday. She dug up the plants, yakked my ear off, taught me a ton about gardening, I played with her dogs and then she gave me an ice cream bar. Totally win, win, win. :)

I have never heard of this. Sounds interesting though. Can I please have the link to this group. I think it would be safe so long as you are careful during pick ups and suck. Always let someone know where you are going and about how long you should be gone.

sure you just go to yahoo.com and search freecycle in groups then you will have to sign up to get in which is no big deal and free. You should check it out. I heard someone got a rv from one of these types of sites.

I've never gone to pick up anything but I have used it to give things away. I've given away clothes and when we got a new bed I gave away the old mattress. I'm a member of the one for our county. I see people all the time thanking this person or that person for something they picked up. I've never heard about anything bad happening? I think it's a great group!

I live inner city Indianapolis & haven't had a problem with freecycle. I've been using it for years now in the various places I've lived & really love the program. granted, I might make a bit of money with a yard sale but I don't always have time to set one up. this way I love that I can get rid of the stuff cluttering up the house without much hassle at all. if I don't think I'll be here to meet the ppl as they pick stuff up then I just put it in a bag or box on the front porch with their name on it.

Well, i have give a couple of things away using freecycle and gotten a couple of things. I have had no problem really. And actually I had to work both times the people came to get the items and they just got them out of the yard no problem. And when we picked up the picnic table and dog house, the people were waiting outside. Of course it is probably notable that we live in a rural area so it maybe "safer" so to speak, than other areas. I do not know if that is a consideration. But I have had great results and was actually about to reply to one about an extra bookshelf I have since I am about to move soon. Great topic. Thumbs up fr me about Freecycle. Great for everyone and the environment. One man picked up an old water heater I had to make a solar heated one. How cool is that??

wow you did get a couple of good deals out of it. It seems like not too many people are involved in it in my area. That is really neat that that guy is making a solar heated water heater. I think that is cool. I've always been interested in solar power and trying to make more things solar powered.

I use freecycle and I think its a great. I do understand the concern of going to someones home. I personally have not had any problems but I can see how someone could abuse the system. I think that if you set up public meeting place it should be fine.

i have never tried this freecycle thing at yahoo. in fact this is only the first time that i have heard of it. and so far, i have no intentions of participating in it. maybe it will be a good to patronize and see if this can be of use to be of help to some people who are suffering from calamities of sorts.
