For those who sell and buy on EBAY: What effect do you think the May 14th increase in United States postal rates will have on sales? Will buyers buy less? Will sellers pass this cost on the buyers? How will it affect your Ebay habits? Just an example of the new rates: A one ounce parcel before May 14th: 52 cents A one ounce parcel after May 14th: One dollar and 13 cents

I have got it marked on my calendar. I am glad I have online bill paying because the postal increase is away too much. A postage stamp jumps from 37 to 41 cents and I am sure it will definitely make a difference in my eBay purchases. I shall be thinking twice before I buy anything.

Are you kidding? The rates are doubling? I don't shop on Ebay, so I don't know the real affect. But it might affect other sites I shop on. The shipping rates are getting ridiculas. If I buy a used book on Amazon for 50 cents, it cost another $3.50 or more to ship it. I might as well buy it new. It might affect some sales, but I don't think there will be a big change on Ebay.

It's going to suck! LOL But, you know, I think everyone will adjust ONCE AGAIN to another rate increase. I amke most of my money from ebay off of my postage so I will have to change my habits of a low low low buying price with a bigger shipping price. I will have to surely adjust where I charge more for the item and lower my shipping.

I do eBay. I just started selling books and cards recently. I think it will effect it because the postage is what I look at when I'm purchasing on eBay. If the postage is a lot, I don't. I didn't realize it was going up that much on parcels. I guess I better go do my homework!! Thannks!

As a seller, I don't think it matters, as it is only 2 cents. I would just absorb it.

That is an awful big increase in rates! I wish I got a yearly cost-of-living increase that large! For those who don't mind paying small shipping charges, it won't matter. For those who live farther away, it might affect their buying and selling. I know to ship something from the east or west coast to Texas where I am, is sometimes quite expensive, so an increase will just make it worse.

I knew there was going to be an increase but i didn't realize it was that large for parcels. It won't really effect me that much as I mostly sell eBooks so there is no shipping price. As far as buying, I don't mind paying extra to avoid having to go to stores. I know there are a lot of online buyers who do it for the convience and I think the rates would have to go up even more to stop them from buying online. Most sellers online and eBay pad their shipping or have a flat rate anyways. I am sure it will make some differences butI am not worried about people stopping shopping online or at eBay.

I thought it was only affecting first class letters right now. so packages wont go up THIS time. it is crazy, they are hurting themselves because more and more people are going to rely on the internet for their communications needs due to the cost of stamps being prohibitive. if they raise it just 1 cent they make some 1 billion dollars more annually. as far as ebay I find the majority of sellers so inflate their shipping costs anyhow - hopefully they won't tag on even more. I do think increased postal fees have lessened the amount of ebay sales to a big degree.... I know I do not buy nearly as much as I used to because of postage - and I rarely sale anything anymore because the ebay fees are cost prohibitive considering there are less sales being made. it just is not worth the risk so much any more.

I wasn't aware that postage was going up that much on a parcel. I think it will effect ebay some but not a lot. As has been stated, most ebay sellers make a little money off of the shipping anyway so it doesn't really matter. People will have to adjust the way biddingis done or something, but overall I don't think it will be too much of an impact. I don't mind paying the shipping if it is close to being accurate. I hate those who charge crazy amounts. My daughter bought a DVD at Christmas time for $1.00 and the shipping was almost $15. That is crazy!!

I try to charge as close to the actual amount for shipping as I can. I recently sold something on another auction site and lost money because I miscalculated shipping costs. However, I have found that USPS is generally cheaper than any of the other carriers for small packages.

I hate every year when it comes to about this time because of the USPS. I can't believe they got up each year. Pretty soon, it's going to cost $ 1.00 to mail a letter. It's insane. I don't usually do things on Ebay so it won't effect me there. So wait. It's CRAAZZZYYYY. I am about to stop buying things online just because of this. The only problem is, I get most of my supplies for my business online so I am sure this is going to effect me bad. :(
