My house is full

Tonight seemed like old times.
James is home from college this weekend with Jenny, a girl from his school. She comes home with him quite often, as her parents are divorced, and often neither parent have time to spend with her if she does go home. This weekend, she has begun to call me Mom, just as the other kids do. I kind of like it.
Tyra, my "adopted" daughter came this morning and took Lauren the youngest to her track meet. Lauren wasn't feeling super good...so she didn't run well today. She was disappointed with herself and her times, which were her worst all year. She perked up when she got home and found that Kristen had come in from her Senior trip, and had brought her a new shirt from Florida.
Kristen's plane was late, and the airline had slung her luggage hard enough that it broke open a box of crackers and strewed them in her suitcase, and her deodorant was cracked into about 1000 pieces, and had to be thrown away. I didn't quite understand why that was necessary, but I'm certainly glad she's home, safe and sound. I need to put some of her vacation memories down, because they are quite funny.
I took Mom to some yard sales this morning. I found one that was having a bag sale. I got the girls 8 skirts and a pair of capri pants for $1. Tyra and I went back later this afternoon and I spent another $3 and got several more bags of clothes for them, including a dress for Kristen to wear to graduation that still has a $49.99 price tag hanging on it.
We fixed homemade Lasagna and garlic bread and had ice cream. Tyra's kids are growing. Jace is losing her baby face and has begun to look like a little girl, even though she's only 28 months old. Zane is pulling up and I believe will probably walk before the week is up. He tried really hard to do that tonight.
. James called Ben and Andrew and they came over along with Ben's sister Winter, who is one of Kristen's best friends. These three boys are joined at the hip worse than any girls I know. They do almost everything together when James is home from college.
I had 10 kids counting the babies, all hanging out in my livingroom, popping popcorn, checking out the fridge and hollering "can I have this last bag of cheetos?" as the cabinet doors slammed shut. The babies love the attention they get from the older ones, so they were content. When Ben came in, Jace came running down the hall screaming "My Ben, My Ben". He scooped her up and tickled her under the chin which sent her into a gale of giggles. Not many 16-18 year old boys pay attention to a little one like these boys do. And she eats it up.
So now, it's 10:00. Tyra took the little ones home to put them to bed, and the teenagers have all gone up the road to the bowling alley for their Saturday night madness. It's just me and Mike and the dog. Baby's sleeping in the middle of my bed, Mike is laying beside her watching my Texas Rangers kick the snot out of Oakland (hee hee hee).
He turned to look at me a minute ago and said. "You realize that in just a few years, this is just how it will be most of the time? The kids will come in to visit, and it will be noisy and loud and full, and then they'll leave to go back to their own homes, and it will be just us again."Yes, I realize that...but for now, my house is full. Or at least it will be again in about 2 hours when they're all bowled out..and ready to eat.

What a nice article! I am not too far from you though. My oldest is 17. She will be 18 in November. She is looking to move out then because she doesn't want to have to accept her step-dad. (so sad). My youngest is 11 and will be 12 in September. I have five children every other weekend but most times it is only 4. When one of them go to spend the night at a friends house on the weekends, it seems even strange to me then.
I hope you enjoy this to the fullest while it is still here! God bless!

That is true. When my son is gone to college, the house just doesn't feel right. I know that in just a few short years, they are all going to be gone.
When in November is your daughter's birthday?
Mine is the 17th. I'll be a whopping 41 though~!

My brothers live in the same town so the three of us get together whenever we can. Usually at moms house.

sounds like you have a very happy and caring family... my grandpa's house used to be like that when he is still alive... but when he passed away about 11 years ago, things changed and my grandma can't live by herself because she is old already... so she lives with one of her daughter (my aunt) and my grandma actually decided to sell the house recently... we hardly have any big family gathering since my grandpa passed away which is a pity...

My grandmother's house is like that every holiday. She still lives by herself and certainly enjoys it when all the kids, grandkids and great-grandkids come in.

That is how it use to be at my mothers house... we had her going that was for sure. now we all moved out and have kids of our own... one of my sisters live about an hour away, I live about 18 hours away and the other sister lives down the road from her. But when I get up there and to her house... it is just like that. There is nothing better then a house full... I know that when my hubby leaves to go on training or now deployemnt... my house is EMPTY and not all the fun to be at. Enjoy it! Try to take as many pics as you can.

We had a ball looking for pictures for my daughter's senior slide show. Every picture turned up a story.

Oh the gossip is the best part when your kids come in from college, and I can catch them up on what they've missed over the weeks they've been gone~ !!

I know just how you feel. It is so nice when all the kids are home. I only have one left at home and he will be starting his senior year of high school in the fall. My daughter is home from finishing her first year of college. My oldest son has his own home, not in the same town, but he came to visit this afternoon. And, my 3rd oldest son came by. My second oldest son is married and has my 3 grandchildren, living in another state. They didn't get to come this weekend, but will be here in a couple weeks to visit. It is so much fun having all the laughing and story telling, and seeing how well they all get along. And, it is such a nice feeling when all the kids are home and you know they are all safe. I love this kind of posts, when we talk about our families. Can you tell we're proud mom's and grandma's?

I wonder what I'll do when they're all gone, and the house is empty and quiet.

Sounds like you have had a very busy day. Sound exhausting. I haven't really done anything great today. I slept in if you want to call it that until almost 9 (I guess it is sleeping in for us as we get up at 4 am on the weekdays), fixed breakfast, went grocery shopping with my husband, came home and hung out clothes, then got on the computer or watched tv the rest of the time except when I fixed supper.

You're the one that sounds like you've had a busy day. Goodness. We had a ball cooking dinner tonight. Tyra and I fixed homemade lasagna, and the two younger girls handled a dessert and the garlic bread.

Sounds like our home used to be. I miss my daughters so much. Glad you are having a nice weekend with your family and friends. It is always good when people open up their homes to others like you do. We also do that and the rewards have been great. Have fun with your family and thanks for sharing your story with me.

Our house isn't as busy as it once was. For several years, when Mike was doing youth ministry, we lived next door to the church. We always had kids at our house.

Oh I would miss my kids friends if they didn't come over. They keep me young-=--or at least young at heart.
