Ok, this happened to me the other day but just getting around to posting a discussion on it.
I opened my Yahoo mailbox and right off noticed something silly. I'm a 'folders' person I'm always making folders for things including my mailbox.
Now, anyone who's had a yahoo mail account knows it automatically had these folders; Draft, Sent, Bulk, and Trash.
I've added the following folders;
MyLot - reponses to discussions and responses
MyLot Friends - new discussions from my friends
PTC - paid to click and read programs
Singlesnet - LOL yes, I'm single and belong to a couple
Yahoo Digest - yahoo groups I belong to digests go here
hold for future - things I want to check later or save
lessons - e-zines or e-courses I've signed with
link exchange - requests for link exchanges with my site
photos - programs I belong to and submit photos to
writing - any corrispondance related to by writing
Ok, this is what I noticed the other day - when I opened my emailbox I noticed that it was an 'every other folder' thing. Every folder that had new mail had either 10 or 20 new messages and it went every other folder.
I thought it was funny and then started thinking about other silly things in life I notice. I notice how many white cars are in parking lots, will count mini-vans (I just got one last year and love it), and how many people are wearing yellow shirts...
So, do you notice silly things? What do you tend to notice most often? If you don't have this habit do you think we who do are 'silly'?

Hello Faith, I am not sure if it is 430am that is making me stupid. But I don't understand what you meant by the other folder thing? Feeling dense here and I don't get it...

Yep you got it and you may not believe this but what you said happened to me not to long ago. I don't sleep well at night but this one night I woke up at 2:22, 3:33, 4:44, and 5:55 - I just went ahead and got up then.

Oh you mean this delineation. :P
Reminds me of how I suddenly look at the clock and it is 2.22, 3.33, 4.44, etc.
So everyone else got it but me? Thanks for making me feel stupid! *hmph*

This shows that you are observant, notice exactly what is going on around you and would be perfect for a neighbourhood watch co-ordinator. I have hundreds of e-mail folders (and sub-folders) and find it makes life much easier for dealing with e-mails, especially 'phishing ones' and dealing with spam as well (although most of my spam is caught by Mailwasher).
As I'm colour blind (red-green & blue yellow), I tend not to notice colours very mutch (I can differentiate between most colours), and wouldn't think of counting different coloured objects when I am out.

Now eye color is something I seldom notice but know why - I am a very shy person and when talking to people tend to look every place but their eyes. One of my friends I've known for over 25 years and I couldn't tell you the color of her eyes :(
On the other hand - tiles I do notice especially if one is off pattern.

I'm pretty much a very organized bunny too. Sometimes, I was thinking would it be nice to get things messier around. Forget about doing the household chores and start acting wild, LOL! That is one thing that I really like to change. Even my brain have a lot of folders in there. This one is for my schedule for the next day. The next one is the food that I needed to prepare. The other one is all those problems that I needed to put in a trash, LOL! I also tend to count the ants marching in a little corner of my house. Who knows, I might start feeding them in the future.

Ok, funny story you will appreciate. My #2 son has always been very very smart (like his father) but always tended to 'forget' little things. One day he and I were driving someplace and we got talking about it (he was 8 years old). He explained as serious as could be he figured out why he did this. In his brain are little rooms and when someone tells him something he puts in in a room and locks the door so he won't forget but there's a little man running around in his head stealing the keys so he can't get the 'stuff' out.
Wouldn't it be fun for you to have someone come in and move your folders all around or rename them - that would give you some 'excitment'...

Yeh, I've noticed that about attractive people. I guess it has something to do with perfection; they must be perfect all the time so little things worry them, and I guess it's probably because they have nothing else going for them than looks.
I've noticed that all promiscuous people are generally messed up individuals who need to MAKE love to make them FEEL loved, as somewhere along the line they have been neglected in some way, or because they have low self-esteem.
I've also noticed that I say the word 'actually' a lot.

Well, actually I have noticed that too, particularly the 'actually' I also use it alot and have been trying to correct myself. My daughter and neice both have the horrid habit of 'like' - We were like going to the store and like I didn't have any money and like I had to go back home, like it was a real pain' Drives me crazy and when my daughter does it I catch her on it with 'like how many times can you say like in one sentence'... She tries not to do it then.

No, I would not call you silly. I would probably call you observant. My brain is wired differently. Unless someone causes me to think 'how many yellow shirts?' or 'how many vans?', I don't think I would go there.
Being observant is the better option. Causes you to think and maybe learn something new.

I didn't think of it that way, 'obervant' I like that way of thinking more than 'silly' makes me sound actually intellegent. I know my ex-husband, father of my 2 oldest boys, was and is very non-observant and it drove me crazy. He was very very smart but had a one track mind and never noticed anything outside of his 'brain thought'.

You know we get so busy in our lives sometimes it is nice to notice the simple things, such as how many white mini vans are in the parking lot or how many children came to my Mother's Day lunch or how everyone seemed to have worn teal blue yesterday (except for me), it is nice that you can see the simple things with life so busy around you, says alot about you.

LOL 'worn teal' I noticed I was the only one who wore a dress - ok I was rushed to get to my Mom's and was planing to go to the evening service also so didn't bother to change my cloths but did notice it.
I think sometimes that's the only way I keep my sanity or what I have is noticing the 'simple things' and laughing at myself for noticing some of them.

I wonder what's going on that you don't do it anymore - maybe you need to take a little time and 'stop to smell the roses' or 'notice some silly things' :)

We like to notice and recognize "punch bugs". Whenever a Volkswagon beetle passes us, we will announce, "what ever color punch bug", then someone else usually says, "cheater", because they didn't see it first. My oldest children started it when they were young, with a punch, and I put a stop to that real fast. When my youngest son came along, we started the new tradition of just saying cheater instead of punching. Except my oldest daughter and her boyfriend, he calls them slug bugs and they "slug" each other or cruiser bruiser (for PT cruisers) with the same reaction. It's pretty silly, but it's one of those little things we do as family...it's really funny during a soccer game and one goes by and my 9 year old yells..."yellow punch bug" across the field to us. We don't yell anything back to him, we just give him a thumbs up so he knows we heard him.

LOL we used to play that game but we did 'slug bug' as your daughters boyfriend says.
We also tend to notice liscense plates and what state they are from. We played it as a game when traveling but even just around town I notice 'out of state' ones.

I don't notice things like that. That doesn't make you silly. Each individual has their own way of doing things and ways of noticing things. It just makes us different not silly. God didn't create a bunch of people who do the same thing. I think that makes for a very interesting world. This was a pretty nice discussion. No you are not silly. It's called being a individual.

You know what I've noticed? I noticed that a lot of short people usually have big handwritings and vice versa. lol. I've also noticed that people who talk a lot of cr*p, usually are the ones that end up being wimps. Plus, I've noticed that a lot of really pretty girls have many insecurities. It's all ironic.

Oh now you've given me something new to watch for - I've never noticed the handwriting thing but very interesting. I have noticed the other 2 you mentioned. Something else I've noticed is a lot of heavy people are happy while skinny ones aren't!

LOL, that sounds to me like you may have an obsessive compulsive disorder! We've all got at least one, your one is that counting white cars in parking lots etc has become a habit.
I notice silly things, like the way people walk, everyone has a very distinct walk. What is even more strange is that I notice the way I walk, and it changes depending on my mood. I don't mean by pace, I mean the walk generally changes. And when I think about it too much I change it. (I don't think I have a walk of my own now though).
Can't think of anymore at the moment, but will report back when I do :)

Now that's funny the walking thing. Easter we were at my parents house and I was talking to them about my youngest granddaughter. She's walking now and her toes are pointing in horribly and I'm concerned about it - she actually trips herself with her own feet. My step-father said to me, "have you ever watched yourself walk?" He and my Mom both pointed out that my right foot does the same thing - I've never noticed it.

I notice things like numbers.. number five is always being seen by me.. I can often wake up or look at the clock and it will say 5:55.. or sometimes 2 or 3:55 whatever.. last week (or so) I was talking to God in my head and looked at the thermometer and it was 55.55 degrees.. Myself I think it is a little game which God plays with me.. and I think he plays them with all of us (mine is to assure me I am not merely whistling in the wind).. I was born on 5/5/55 and couldn't help noticing it when I turned 50 in '05. That's about as weird as I get.. [If you think about the nature of numbers, five would be 'halfway there'..?] - I love doubles. When I pay bills, like a credit card bill which isn't a set payment, or additional interest on a loan or something.. I'll pay in doubles or triples.. $111.00 or $77.00 etc.. maybe even $111.11, or $77.77 especially if it's via the keyboard.. But that's not weird is it? Speaking of parking lots, one thing I wish I would notice, is where I park..

When my mom first got her new car, I never saw so many cars just like it driving down the road. I swore that she never stayed off of the road. It was the same when My sister got her new car. I don't think that everyone else suddenly ran out and bought the same car, but suddenly there seemed to be hundreds of them... same type, color, everything. Most things I don't notice like that, but these things I did.

LOL - I've done that too. I think it's because we don't really notice the cars until we or someone we know gets it then we see all the others.
Funny thing is last year I got a Chevy Lumina Mini-Van and expected to see tons of them after that because of my experience in the past - I haven't seen tons, I've seen one a different color than mine and an old friend I hadn't seen in ages was the owner of the other one :)

I play with numbers I see on signs/license plates, etc. Like if I see a number I will sit there and process it in my head. It's so weird!
For example:
650612220
2+2+2 = 6
6+0=6
6+0=6
5+1=6
6+6+6+6 = 24
2+4=6
I do this ALOT.

Yes, I tend to notice things of a pattern. I notice if there is several vehicles in a parking lot or driving down the road the same color. Or if several people have the same color of shirts on, I notice that. I would have probably noticed what you noticed with your folders as well. I like folders too. Do you set the e-mail to automatically go to your folders?

I always notice silly things like you do, weird color cars in parking lots or in the street, the clothes people wear of the animals they are walking. I'm a people watcher and can usually find something silly in everyone I see.
