Would you cut off your hair to make a wig for a Child with Cancer?

My hair is about a fist from my belt. It is very hot and I am tired of it.
My girlfriend wanted to see what I looked like with long hair so I grew it. Now I am tired of it and it must go.
I decided last year that I was going to donate it to help make wigs for financially disadvantaged children.
I haven't had a day off in a while so I am looking forward to helping them.
http://www.locksoflove.org is where I am going to send it. Do you know anything about them?
Would you cut off your hair to help a child who needed it?
Have you ever donated your hair? If so is there a "better" place to donate.

I would have no problem at all doing that and have coffee with a lady who does. She is half Fillipino and has lovely thick black hair. I on the other hand have limp, fine gray hair, so I don't think they would want mine unless they were to also be prepared to dye it.

You can donate your hair. They take all kinds.
They will sell it if it is gray. I am sure they need money too.
I have a couple gray hairs. They will pull them out and sell them. LOL.

I have always wanted long hair but mine is too coarse and too thick, plus it is naturally curly. I did grow it fairly long once and when I cut it one of the customers asked if I would mind if she kept the hair. I said yes but out of curiosity asked her why on earth she wanted it. She said that she restored dolls and she liked to use real hair when she could. She also said that she had never seen anyone with such a beautiful shade of auburn. That said, yes, I would cut it off for not just a child but also for an adult....especially if I were getting tired of it being long....all the more reason to do a good deed. +

Good for you. I have no experience in this so can offer no advice! Have you considered getting people to sponser you to have your hair removed and donate the money? Or perhaps go the whole way and have it shaved bald?
I wish you all the best of luck in this. Congratulations it really is a great thing to do.

Usually you have to go to a professional hair stylist because they have to handle it a special way. I have donated my hair twice to locks of love. My hair dresser asks for permission and shows me how much she cut for them. It is an awesome idea and I will probably do it again.

I think it will be better to put it into several pony tails rather than one to take advantage of the length of the front.

Locks of love is the best place in the world to donate your hair, I think. My daughter is nineteen and she has been donating to locks of love since she was thirteen. She grows her hair to bum length then donates it , approximately every two years. Congratulations to you for having a heart.

I don't think that there is any better place to donate hair.
I can not donate because my hair is color treated.
There are some places that will cut your hair for free if you donate over 10 inches of hair.
God Bless you for doing this. It will help a child or two, and is something you would not need, so why not donate it!

I have long hair and would donate it if I had to cut off I suppose as it would be waste to throw it away, I wouldn't cut it off just for that purpose however it took me years to get it as long as it now. Long hair is hot and difficult to maintain so I can understand why you want yours cut however.

I've never thought of this before. I've always been very proud of my hair, because I've had to fight many times for my right of having it (as living in a post-communist country, there are still teachers that think having long hair is not normal... because the "party" says so...)
But if you put it that way, and someone with cancer would need hair for that, I think my good will would let me cut it for a good cause. Afterall, it will grow back :D

I think that is a great thing to do. I've never had long enough hair to be able to do it, but I would if I could. We have several beauty shops that offer this service of sending it to locksoflove, so you might check and see if you have a place that offers this service near you. Ann Curry, on The Today Show did that.

I would most definitly cut my hair to help a child who needed it. When you really think about it..its just hair and grows back but for a child who doesnt have hair to grow im sure it would mean the world to them. children who need the hair probably get teased for not having any and at a young age it can be devastating for them so if I can make them more happy with themselves then I would be honored for them to have my hair.

Yes, I would if I had long hair and wanted to cut it off. I used to have long hair but now it is only mid way down my back. It's pretty hot here in the summer so when I get tired of a ponytail I may just have it whacked! I think this is a good cause to give to and it doesn't cost you anything!

Locksoflove is a reliable website and company. Many people I know have sent their hair to be donated to children to them. I would definitely cut off my hair so that an unfortunate child could get a wig. I just can't grow it long because it's too hot here.
