I would love to be able to depend on my garden. We are moving and I wasnt able to plant a full garden this year. I really miss it. I have talked to my parents to see if I could plant in their yard and they told me it was fine but some how it isnt quite the same. We are looking for a larger yard so we can have abigger garden so next year I should be having a fun filled year of canning and eating my garden bounty. Good luck with your garden. Grow some extra for me okay.

That's a great idea! asking your parents or a friend to use thier yard and then give them some of the veggies!

I'd love to have a full vegetable garden, but we're in a small apartment. We have a bit of a community plot, though, and I am really looking forward to growing things. I hope we get to do tomatoes.
I remember as a kid, I grew peas in the backyard in my part of the garden. When we thought our mom wasn't looking, we'd sneak some of the peas and eat them raw. I also grew strawberries. My sisters mostly grew flowers, but one year one of them decided to grow zucchinis. We had so many zucchinis after that.
We never grew enough vegetables (except the zucchinis) to depend on them. Even now that my parents no longer have kids running the garden, there are really only enough veggies to add to a salad, or for my little cousins to eat fresh off the plant. I will admit though, now that we are no longer enthusiastically weeding and watering, the garden does produce more.

I was renting for the longest time. I missed this part of having a house the most too!

I wish I had the room in my yard to do this. I love planting veggies and being able to pick and enjoy the fruit of your hard labor. We have a little spot and I'm thinking about doing a garden for fall since my belly is so big its kind of hard to get up and down now so I don't think I will be doing much planting right now lol. Its so exciting.

Well congrat's to you! You've got enough to look forward too then! Buy veggies from your neighboors and next year look into planting for small spaces. There are ways of fitting alot in a small space. Planting vertically like in hills or steps is a great way to do that! Once my mom had a pumpkin tree. She planted the pumpkins too close to the pine tree and the grew up the tree, hanging from the branches!

We werent able to have a garden last year since we moved into an apartment. I was amazed at how much it cost me to buy tomatoes and other veggies in the stores. I was so used to having our own. WE are moving into a house in two weeks so I will be able to plant some stuff but we dont have a gareden spot dug up yet. I'm going to plant a few things in pots until the garden is ready.

I guess this is what i meant by depending on the garden. Tomatoes are outragious in price. Lettuce too! I t sure does save alot to have the garden every year. I also like to buy veggies from nieghboors.
