and came across someone asking for money to pay their bill. This got me curious, how many of you would donate a couple dollars to someone asking for donations, not knowing what they are really using the money for?
This got my curiosity because they need to make that payment that night and through paypal. Can you really make an electric payment through paypal? And why need to pay it at night? Seems kind of odd to me. Would you donate to just anyone?

I think that I would take a leap of faith and do it if it were only a couple of bucks. Sometimes in life, we just have to pay our good fortune forward. Have you ever read or heard of the book Saving Karyn? It is a really funny book about a woman who did just this to pay off a ton of bills. True Story...LOL...Check out her website sometime at www.savingkaryn.com

I have never donated money to individuals, but i've given them food & bus tickets.
In my place there is a begger who has 2 shop lots & thousands of cash.
I think 'internet begger' will survive & some of them will make better income than you & me.

I'm pretty quick to offer to donate small amounts of money to people that I already talk to who seem to actually need it. Assuming I have the money on hand. I have given money to online friends that I already talked to online, gladly, and not worried much whether I was being lied to or not. In my opinion, I still did the right thing, whether they did the right thing or the wrong thing with that money.
I can't really understand needing to pay a bill via paypal at night though. That sounds a little fishy.

They need the pay that night before the got kicked off from the website the next morning! That's probably why.. =p~
I have encountered a newbie posting multiple discussions on asking donations through Paypal... I think that it is definitely a scam. He said that he needs $20 tonight to buy some medicine for his grandmother, who is staying with him. I was like, no way, he got an access to a computer. That means that he either owned or rented a computer. That means he got money. If he just used some free computer, say in libraries, then at least he was computer literate. He can find a temporary job with his computer skill! Or at least, he could do part-time elsewhere, waiting tables, in grocery stores, etc. It was ridiculous to have a 26-year-old guy asking for money on the Internet. I mean, I would give some to an old homeless folk who is cold and hungry, but not to a healthy young man who doesn't wanna move his butt away from his computer desk. It just doesn't make sense to me. =)
Just my thought.. =)

Maybe it is not night time where they are, obviously this is a bit of lie but may not be as far from the truth as you would first think.
Maybe they really do have an electricity bill sitting there that needs paying and they just thought they would chancce their arm at it.
I once set up a site asking fro donation for my travels and they could be made through paypal. They didn't go for it though. Not one single donation!
I know that here in the UK it is illegal to beg...I wonder if that includes the internet.

It is odd to give money for someone who do not know or you are not seeing it. Maybe is living on other coordinates ( I reffering to longitude) Who knows?
The fishy things that is requesting money not to cure a disease or to make a surgery resection but to pay a bill. I will think little more before donate the money.Am I wrong?

Donating money for the poor is a very good thing to do. BUT this situation is so different especially he will use the money to PAY for their ELECTRIC BILL. This is their responsibility. They used electricity so they should pay for it. But for a person online (On the internet), i don't think they are THAT poor. They just want to solicit a money from other people who are kindhearted. If they solicited a small amount of $1 per person, if 100 people gave him then he will have $100. This is a clear racket. And paypal for paying bills? no way. BUt what he can do (if he's really honest that he will pay the bill), he will transfer the amount from his paypal to his VISA card (or any bank account). I think this can happened.

Usually, I checked the credibility of the story before I donate anything because nowadays, there are some people that it is just so easy for them to ask for money especially on the internet. I think they are thinking that nobody will know them and they can make a quick buck. But they have to put in their mind that what if they are making up these stories, it will actually come true? Sometimes fate is so cruel and playing with it comes consequences.
Plus, there are so many charities and organization that will help you if you are in need. You can go to the churches and ask for a donation especially emergency ones or for medicines. People are understanding and very compassionate. But make sure you are telling the truth because if not, the next time you are in dire straits and you really need real help, it will not come to you.

I've done this one time in the past, donated money to a family online that I didn't know. I was very leary at first and have elected not to do this in other cases but this one had 'information'. The local newspaper in the town where they lived ran a story on their situation and the situation and newspaper were legitamate so I did.
I feel deeply for people who are in deperate situations, have been there before myself, but there are also many on line who will take advantage of trusting generous people. I would never give money unless I personally knew someone in that situation or there was documention supporting the 'story'.

I guess this is a big thing now on line. There have been a few people telling how asking for money on the internet helped them get out of debt and pay their rent. One girl was from New York, she didn't just do this once put twice. Being honest with people about her struggle with debt and then say she wanted need further help to go to school or pay rent to stay out of debt or something like that. Many more people went on line to do this type of thing sense those stories aired on tv. I think it is the new begging system. Instead of going up to people on the street they do it on line. If it works for them fine I guess. I dont' know how they can feel good about themselves. Not only that but one of the girls had a rich family that could of helped her but she didn't want to ask her family she wanted to do it on her own. Well in a way she did it on her own. She begged on line. Was her family proud of her for getting out of debt on her own. I sure doubt it when they found out how she did it! Would I donate to just anyone; I would have to say no! Then the saying goes, never say never; so maybe I would if I came across one that was totally believable. Then if it turned out to be fake I would comfort myself with the fact that i gave with good intentions and a right heart. Does matter what the other people did with the money!

I don't donate in those kinds of situations. I will donate to places like salvation army or the red cross. I won't donate money to individuals because of not knowing who is scamming me. While I know there are people out there who can't afford to pay their bills I do know that there are places set up to help these types of people so I don't feel bad when I don't give money to just that one person.

Yes we dont know whether they are using it for right purpose or not , but some times I do donate some money to the people thinking that they might get some help with it, we never know sometimes they might be really in trouble and what ever we might give them that counts and I feel helping some one in troubles is very great..I dont know whether they can make the payment through paypal during night but just pray before you donate any one and then try to donate as much as you can ..God will bless us and give us abundantly in return!

I would not donate money to someone I don't know. I do make donations very regularly to charities and I have a few people that I help out with groceries and even rent when needed. But these are people whose situation I am aware of on a first hand basis. I have enough to live off but I know many people who do not - so I have no problem in sharing what I have.

No, I think very few of them are sincere. I always wonder how they are on the internet, of course they could be in a library or someplace like that. I don't like to give people money because you never know what they are going to really do with it. I've helped people pay bills before, but I've made the check out to the company and not to the person themself.
