Or do you think uniforms take away kids individuality?
Just last night my 13 year old sister called me complaining that she's going to have to start wearing a uniform to school next year. The more I talked to her about it and got her feedback and why she thought it was a bad idea I started thinking it was a good idea. She was all whiny saying she couldn't wear her Abercrombie. If kids are so concerned about what brands they are wearing and who they are impressing then I think it's good to make them wear uniforms to school. I know I probably wouldn't have been saying this when I was in school but now that I'm an adult my thinking has changed. School is not a fashion show (God I sound old lol). I just get so sick of seeing teenagers obsessing over material objects. Ok that's my rant for the day lol.
What do you all think?

I hate that, that's so stupid. Kids spend basically their whole day at school. And now the school desides what they have to wear? It feels so forced besides did they ask the kids for their permission? No? Why not? It's the kids that have to change their clothes and wear them. How come the kids didn't have a say. That's so unfair.

I wore a school uniform from kindergarter rhoug high school and I would not change that rule for anything. When I hear of all the "problems" that girls go through in school which has not a uniform code the is no way I would have wanted to have these "problems".

Yes, uniforms are a good idea. Like you say kids are all about who wears this and that.. brands - the most expensive the better , fashion....
At school they form their own little groups according to who wears out and can be very cruel to the ones that haven't or can't buy the same kind of clothes and even accessories.
An uniform, no matter how personalized , closes the gap and adjusts the differences so there are no comments, no laughing no hurting.
It also helps parents since no matter how expensive the uniform is , it will still be less than all those demands from some of the kids.
THe uniform also helps with stealing of expensive clothes of footwear that is something happening more than what most people think.
So all in all, the uniform is a very good idea and parents should support the initiative whenever it presents itself.
IN the end, most kids even end up enjoying their uniforms specially when they can make them personal in some way.

In my opinion, School uniforms are a 'great idea'. They put all teens at common ground. School should be about education. It isn’t a fashion show. No way do uniforms stand in the way of children expressing themselves. All schools should have a policy that requires children to wear uniforms.

My daughter used to wear a uniform to school. It wasn't so much a fashion statement as it was a safety issue because alot of kids would get upset about what someone else was wearing.

I think school uniforms are a great idea. It takes away a lot of the teasing of the poorer kids who can't afford all the name brand clothes and you don't get kids being beaten up for their jackets or $150 sneakers. When I was in school, we had to wear uniforms and if we were caught without our tie on we were sent home for the day with a note to our parents.

My son is in the first year of Primary School (aged 5) and he has to wear a full school uniform to school every day, right down to socks and hat..
Even at Kindergarten last year, he wore the kindergarten t-shirt and hat.
I like my son wearing the uniform, it keeps his nice clothes clean and ready for him to wear without being damaged or lost at school. It also makes mornings very efficent, with him not having to chose something to wear. It also makes it fair on all of the kids because no one can be picked on for not having designer or name branded clothes. Everyone is equal.

I also feel that school is not a fashion show. It is a distraction I think. I also feel that it makes it much easier for the kids who are less fortunate to feel more accepted because they are all uniformly dressed. It does limit the teasing and so forth that would accumulate when they are not able to afford what other kids have. I was one of those unfortunate kids who didn't have name brand anything. I was teased all of the time and honestly I wish we had to wear uniforms. It would have made my life much easier. My daughter wears uniforms at her school and clothing and expense wise it is much cheaper.

I think it is good for kids to wear uniforms to school.
uniforms might not look so good ,but it is looks regular and it looks like a student more.
if all student wear different clothes, yes, they might be more pretty or with good looks, but it is hard to manage the school.
and they might pay more attention to their clothes than to study.
but for student, study is the most important things in school.
so it is a good idea to wear uniform to school.

I think that they should wear uniforms because like you say school should not be a fashion show. Worrying about what they are wearing and trying to impress each other is a major distractor. They are there to learn.

I am only 26 years old and to be honest with you I wished our school would have done the uniforms back when I was in school. The reason being is that maybe that would have been one less thing kids could pick on you about. Kids these days bully other kids because they cant afford abercrombie or other name brands and not only that there are places where kids are getting beat up for their material clothes and shoes so yes I definitly agree with uniforms in schools now and then.

Wearing uniforms is more convenient and cheaper coz you don't need buy expensive clothes for your child and a lot of money can be saved. And actually young guys are always hating wearing uniform which is not fashinable enough and making everyone look the same, so as her parent you shoud have a chat with your child to let her know what is more important in her school years fashon or knowledge.I think she will understand your standpoint.

Yes I do feel kids should wear uniforms to school. I beleive in simple living and high thinking. I feel schools are meant to groom kids to become better citizens of tomorrow and not fashionable models. I used to take pride in my school uniform and it reflected in my personality as i used to turn out smartly. LOL. I feel uniforms make kids look the same and they are not distracted by material objects and focus on studies and it also helps in discipline too.

yes kids should be earing uniforms in school. School is not a place to show off your dresses. There should be a sort of uniformity in dresses hence the uniform code in schools. They can wear any dress they want after school hours.

to some degree I agree with having uniforms in the school. It allows the students to concenrate more on school and less on there appearance. On the other hand I also believe that kids today should be allowed to express themselves. So then the question is how do we meet in the middle so that the kids are happy and individuals but yet not overly obsessive about there appearnces?

When my kids went to high school, we happened to move on the edge of a certain school district which made my kids have to go the the "rich" high school. LOL. The kids were mostly from weathly families and all wore designer clothes and most had a brand new car from parents that was better than my car. It made it tough for our kids sometimes. Wearing uniforms would level the field, so to speak and no one would get looked down on for not being able to wear expensive designers clothes.

I didn't like having to wear a uniform.
it doesn't stop bullying. if someone would bully you for your clothes, they'll bully you for the wrong shoes, the wrong bag, etc.
when I got to sixth form, there was no uniform, and at that point I was bullied much less. when you can wear your own clothes you can more easily find people you have something in common in. it can be a band T shirt, a similar style of clothing. you can spot your own type of people who might just be another person in a classroom in uniform.
I made more friends when I got to the age with no uniform, because the sort of people you get on with are easier to identify.

I agree that it won't stop bullying all together but I feel that would be one less thing for kids to tease each other about. But I do agree that when you wear your own clothes you can find kids that wear similar clothes and common interests easier. But I have come to realize something about selecting your friends in that way since being out of school. I also made my friends by things such as what we wear as one of the ways of choosing my friends. It wasn't the only way but I will admit it was one way I found some of my friends. It turned out that we were from about the same kind of families with similar income backgrounds. Since my family has never had lots of money to spend on clothes I always would tend to shy away from the kids who dressed nicer just because I automatically thought they wouldn't be very nice and were snobby. Well as I've found out by being out in the real world that's not always the case. I have run into some of those people I shyed away from in high school and some of them are actually very nice people and it's a shame I didn't give them a chance in high school.

Uniforms mean that teachers can spend more time teaching rather than reporting dress code violations. And students will spend more time in the classroom rather than getting sent to the office because they were inappropriately dressed. My high school kept some school sweat pants and tee-shirts in the office so that they wouldn't have to send kids home for dress code violations.
