If you were moving to a new country and you were looking for a place to stay, which would be the single most important thing you would be looking for. examples: an affordable apartment one close to schools for your children close to the place you are going to work The suburbs away from the hassle of big cities a community of your own people, by this I mean you are Indian, and you move to Italy, to you want to be in a community that has a large Indian population a diverse area but one that can speak your native language Which would you go for, I think at my stage in life, I would go for affordable housing.

I moved from Germany to the United States about 17years ago...it was rough....the culture is a little bit different.I knew how to speak to english, but had idea how to speak and understand slang...I had a really hard time.. and of course everytime I would talk to someone...they would ask me..where I was from...etc. I had one bad experience, one year after I came to the US..some guy heard me talking to a friend and asked me,where I was from..I told him Germany...so he called me a Nazi and did the Sieg Heil - Hitler greeting....he said I was a killer...that really hurt my feelings...I wasn't even born in the 1940's and would never support this horrible act, that Hitler did to those poor people...anyways..that was the only bad experience I had...everyone else took me in with open arms..and said, that Germany is a cool place.

I would pick a country where there is democracy. If you have that kind of freedom, you can have anything---choose affordable housing, meet people of your same nationality, great schools, etc.

this is not about democracy or no demacracy if it is better for you then think already it is a democratic county, still the question remains what will you look for first. even in democracies you don't always get everything you want in a nice package. which is the most important thing to you, what would you want first. All these people who have answered including myself live in a democracy.

Hi Winterose, it is true, the people you have responded live in a democratic country. But since you asked what would we look for first if we decide to move to another country, that was the first thing that came to my mind. There are good job offers with free housing included in countries where there is no democracy. I have friends who accepted job offers in countries where you cannot practice your own religion, that it is a crime if you do...But the pay is high and they get free housing and transportation so they took the jobs. The money is good, but they have to watch their every move, they cannot even go past curfews or else they will be jailed for violating curfew hours. Now is that a place where I want to live? I'd rather take the subway 2 hours away from work, or get a low paying job that can still feed me 3x a day, live in an apartmet- at least I have my freedom ;)

A small, but comfortable house in calm region, but with enough stores, school and other places arround. And of course, a normal price for my pocket. Regional factor is not important for me, i dont mind if i am in Bulgarian society or not. But good neighbors are wellcomed-any nationality:-)

I was already moving to a new country and the main reasons were the lack of jobs and money in my old country. Now I am really happy here where I am and in the future I can look up for some more stuff like area of living, good school for the children and so on.

The most important thing would be the school sytem. We are on avery strange system here in Ireland and it would be hard for the kids to slot into a new place. It might not even be possible, without seriously damaging their futire prospects, at least for the older ones. Thet are being prepared for the Irish leaving cert and it just isn't anything like the North American standard or anywhere else, for that matter.

I don't know about american since I am canadian but we have equavalency exams, so your kids might be in the same grade, a lower grade or a higher grade depending on the education system they came from as compared to ours.

Number one concern would be that it is in a safe area.

i would be more worried about affordable housing but also in a nice and safe area. so i think a lot of research to be done before you move. but then in the same sense you would try and make close to children schools etc if i had kids.

If I had to move to a new country, I think the one primary thing I would look for is proximity to my place of work. Coz if its a new country, i dont want to spend too much time initially in wasting tie tot ravel to work. I would prefer something closer so I would be able tog et used to the place better before moving further away.

LOL, winterose, for the past few months, I was constantly browsing the net for countries that offer the best place for me to migrate. It really takes a lot of time and planning to do everything. The first thing I checked is the kind of lifestyle the country have. Is it a high standard living? Will I afford their lifestyle? The apartment is not to be overlook too. How much will be their lowest rate? Do they offer free education for migrant children? The language shouldn't be a problem since I am choosing only the English speaking countries. Lastly, the work opportunities is also important. What will be the most in-demand job? How much will be the salary and so on.

I think I'd have to go with 2 things winterose. Because my daughter is still young enough to be with me, I'd want to be close to schools, and would also definitely need to find affordable housing.

In my place of life, I'd probably go for affordable housing too. But if I were of a different culture with different food taboos, I'd probably go for a community with a large population of my own people.

if i was moving to a new country and i was looking for a place to stay i would have kept all the important points in my mind like affordabilty, near to the places i go mostly, have good neighbourhood and the place around it should be clean and should look nice. but the first thing is the affordability.

well, for me location is the most important thing... it has to be accessible to the amenities and public transport since i can't drive and have to rely on public transport to go everywhere... so convenience is very important to me...

Well, if i moved to a new country, it would mean that i probably can afford it, so, with that being said, i'd go for a diverse community, but one that can speak my language. Cuz already being in a strange country is a lot of adapting to do, at least if you're understood and understand others, it's a good start!

The most important thing I look for would be safety. I would want to live in a place which is safe to live in. I would want to live in peace and not in constant fear of being attacked.
