Why do we laugh at other peoples misfortunes??

I have just been watching 'You've been framed' and have been in hysterics at people falling over or hurting themselves in one way or another. Now I feel mean for laughing!!!!

I guess some people just don't care about others's feelings and would like to see them get hurt so that they can get a laugh out of that.
