I found out I had cancer on the left side of my tongue and lymph node by having a biopsy. I've had one chemo treatment and already on my three week check up with the doctor my lymph node shrunk by 80% and my tongue by 45%!! The doctor was astounded and my mom, dad and myself were very happy.
I still have to have another chemo treatment and go through radiation and surgery. So I still have a long road to go, but we are very positive about it.
I lost my sister to cancer about three years ago and I remember her telling me she waited to long. I never forgot that. I even had a dream about my sister telling me I have to go get that biospy and go through the treatments or I'll die. I listened to her. If you ever suspect you may have cancer don't wait, get it checked out asap. I was pretty sure I had it by researching on the internet.

I'm very aware of my tongue since I bite my tongue in my sleep. It started looking really bad and it hurt, my left jaw hurt and my ears. I always research the net on everything and I had the symptoms. Also, my dentist always keeps an eye on it.

Sorry to hear your sister waited to long. My daughter had skin cancer several years and was lucky to survive. She has a big scare and visits classrooms to promote the use of sun screen. I'm glad you didn't wait. Best wishes always.

I am very glad you took direct action. Do you hate that you lost your sister? I lost mine to a cancer that was supposed to be very curable, but each time it flared up, her HMO delayed the treatment she needed. Our thoughts and prayers are with you. Another friend of mine posted about using Essiac Tea, an herbal remedy, along with his cancer treatments. You may want to look at it on the internet, as well.

Thanks for the advice. Losing my sister was so hard. This was the first time I ever lost someone so close to me. I'm just glad I got to let her know I loved her and had the chance to say good-bye. I feel she's watching out for me now. I'm thankful to her for bringing my family together. We all became closer and have a new outlook on life. It's still hard to think about it.

That is wonderful to hear how you are recovering...this is great news and you must feel glad too...not only about the results that the lymph node has shrunk so much but for your sister telling you...I'm so sure she was telling you in your dream to get yourself checked out..almost like a psychic experience. I sure wish my mom had told docs exactly how she felt. My mom passed away last year...it was an aggressive form of pneumonia --but the year prior to that during the summer of 2005 she had been diagnosed with esophageal cancer..she went through the chemo and radiation route too, but no surgery..the thing of it is, she probably could have been diagnosed with it so much sooner...My mom did have a lot of serious emotional problems...she was seeing a therapist for about five years as I knew she at least was very depressive...but because she never signed a proxy I had no intervention until the last few months of her life when she finally signed one---so she was the type that never told her therapist or regular docs how she really really felt, emotionally or medically--I was the only one to see her the way she really was at least from the emotional side of it...she would keep her mouth shut though even to me about how she felt..then a year prior to her being diagnosed with the cancer she started to do a bulimic thing..and I thought oh, great...another emotional/mental problem--the only thing she'd say most times was that she felt and had a lot of congestion...well no doubt she was starting to feel the tumor...but because she never told anyone exactly what was what, she instead found herself with advanced cancer...if she had only signed the proxy I could have had some say in her clinical care---both emotionally and medically...I did try to contact her therapist and docs to discuss things but it was like I was invisible without that written consent from my mother. And in all honesty I sometimes wonder if she really did go to all her chemo/radiation sessions...she had a bad habit of walking out of appointments if she was waiting too long...She even did that once after a really bad fall where she went to the ER...she stayed a few hours, and walked out...I told her she needed medical attention...so next day she goes to the ER...walks out...this went on about four days until finally she stayed put..She could have had a good life..had she wanted it...her cancer could have been discovered sooner if as I said she had told someone, anyone exactly what was wrong but didn't...she wouldn't even say anything to me...
OMG I'm rattling on...sorry...but I think a lot of us have had some brush with cancer..with me it was with my mother...but it looks like you're on the road to a wonderful recovery...keep us posted on your progress

I'm sorry you lost your sister to cancer, but I'm happy for you that the chemo seems to be working well. You have a great attitude, and that's important. I've known people who suspected something wrong and were afraid to find out until it was too late. You're so right that something like that needs to be checked out right away.

Good for you, lalav, I will keep you in my prayers. You made the right decision (maybe with a little push from your sister), and I feel that your outcome will be positive. When you suspect something like this, time is of the essence. May God bless you and keep you.

I am sorry to hear about your cancer, and about losing your sister to cancer. I have lost two uncles to cancer and one has cancer but it is in remission now. I know that we have a family history so I keep things checked. I think that is great that you got such good news after one round of chemo! I hope that you continue to do as well and that it soon will all be gone!
