Why Do Stars Cover Themselves in Tattoos?

I read at the weekend that David Beckham is going to get a big tattoo on the back of his head and crown and Victoria, quite rightly so is up in arms about it. He says he loves the pain (I know ladies if he wants pain he should be a woman in childbirth!) but he looks awful!
I'm sorry but I hate tattoos, one or two OK, but any more and they look horrid, a complete eyesore and to have tattoos which are so prominent and like IN YOUR FACE? Has the bloke lost his senses completely.
Victoria said that the more she goes on about it the more stubborn he gets, but fancy putting your relationship at risk for what? A nasty big tattoo! What do you think? Why do people cover themselves in tattoos? They are not nice they are UGLY and I for one don't want to see them.
Has he lost the plot? I know Mr Beckham is not exactly all there up top, but another tattoo? He's going too far

Uh-oh! I am going to have to make sure I do not wear a low cut top when we meet up for a coffee , so that my tattoo is not in your face - not that your face would be in my cleavage anyway! lol I do have a tattoo there but I thought long and hard about where to get it cos I am very aware that I do not always want it to be seen and I also knew that when I am elderly (if I ever get there) I won't want to have a tattoo on show and I am pretty sure that I won't be wearing low cut tops then! I can understand what you say about overdoing it and risking a relationship, but then again with Victoria trying to control everything he does maybe that is the very reason he is being so stubborn! lol xxx

If he can screw a woman and get away with it he sure ain't gonna listen to her over another tattoo!
I know that people can get addicted to tattoos and once they start they feel the need for more and more.
Personally I like them if they are designed well and are not too colourful. The old tatty ones people use to have aren't so nice, however my partner has a massive black tattoo on this upper arm and I think it looks great.
My son is going to design me a tattoo, as he is a graffiti artist and I would love to have one of his designs on my arm as he is so dedicated to his art, its something I can have with me forever.
Come on Wolfie don't you ever get the urge for a lovely tattoo of an anchor or 'love' 'hate' on your fingers in a nice blue homemade ink. I think this would be very fetching!!

personally I think a well done tattoo is a piece of art, I have see some of the Polynesian tattoos and I think they are just beautiful. And as for stars having tattoos it is because they are the few that can afford a good one. they are not cheap and some artists get great money. Like I say I find it beautiful, I always have and always will. The Japanese are very talented as well in body tattoos. and i am a grandparent that is 64 so this is not a kid thing. I would imagine it is a tase that not every one has. Thanks Wolfie

Why do people get tattoos in general? The answer lays in that it is a free country, some people view body art as beautiful, some want to do it for attention, some do it to get back at their parents, some do it as a form of social identity.

Well he'd better be careful his brains don't fall out when he has his tattoos done. LOL I think he's got enough already. Mind you i'm a fine one to talk - I have 3 at the moment and would love to get some more done, finances permitting. But i'd never consider having one done on the back of my neck or in a conspicuous place like that.
when I lived in the UK, there was a young guy who was famous for having tattoos on his face. He had a sort of spider web thingy all over his face and tears coming down one eye. Now that he is older, I wonder if he regrets having it done? You can't get more "in your face" than that! LOL Great discussion Wolfie mate. ;)

I have no idea why he has so many, it's not like he's hideous or anything and needs to cover up. (far from it) I have been thinking about getting a tattoo, but, I'm worried about what happens when I look in the mirror when I'm 60. ARGGH..could be scary. Tattoos that look nice now, not so good in 40 years.

I simply cannot understand why folks want to brand themselves .... the ONLY time they look anywhere near nice is in the first few months .. after that they fade and go nasty bluey coloured and UGLY .. yes that is the word for it ..
Honestly .. I've never seen a pretty tattoo ever .. and the only good reason I can think for them is if you ever go missing and a body is found .. they can perhaps tell if it's you by the brandings you have ..
Here is some info on Isobel varley .. the worlds most tattooed lady ..

I think they want to see who can out do each other with the tatoos. Who can have the most or be the most shocking.I just dont like them really.I think people look great the way they are, and dont really see the big deal about them. Thats just the way we were raised, it was actualy considered a sin to mar your body. I think that goes back to the bible days.
who knows what the next fad will be???

tattooing has been around for thousands of years and can hardly be considered a "fad". A bare wall with nice pain can look good the way it is yet people still hang art on it...the human body is no different to me...here's more info about the history of tattooing copy/pasted from wikipedia
"Tattooing has been around for thousands of years and has a direct link to culture and symbolism of each culture. Tattooing has been a Eurasian practice at least since Neolithic times. Mummies bearing tattoos and dating from the end of the second millennium BC have been discovered at Pazyryk on the Ukok Plateau. Tattooing in Japan is thought to go back to the Paleolithic era, some ten thousand years ago. Various other cultures have had their own tattoo traditions, ranging from rubbing cuts and other wounds with ashes, to hand-pricking the skin to insert dyes."

Okay, my initial reaction was to go off on a rant here but I am going to take the higher ground. The old phrase "beauty is in the eye of the beholder" comes to mind. What one person finds ugly another will find beautiful. I for one find tattoos (done well)to be a beautiful form of self-expression. If you ask most people with tattoos why they got them I think you'll find that most of them didn't do it to stand out and be noticed, instead they are usually something of a very personal nature (I know mine are).....my advice to anyone that doesn't like how I look is to look somewhere else....it's my body and I will decorate it any way that I choose.

Honestly I don't know.
They out stage each other in all sorts so the biggest and coolest tattoo are seen as fashion now and I think it's pretty stupid.
Rappers with no skin unmarked, female celebs looking like bikers.
Well aslong as they're happy It's their choice.

Ohh, Brian...you would hate most of my friends. We all LOVE tattoos. i agree about tattoos on the face, thoguh. Most of them DO look terrible. However, i have seen some that were really nice. i don't want anything on my face, though. i DO pan on getting my fair share of ink done. None on the face...the hgihest up with be on the back of my neck and behined my ears. i pan on getting some a=on my arms and around my ankle as well. Maybe on my sides up from my hips.

I would personally never have a tattoo ,
I don't mind small ones but I think they should be henna or something as they can be removed ,
How many people do you think have had names of people tattooed on their arms then they fall out and wish they had never had it done ,
I think David Beckham is mad and thoughtless and a lot of young people copy him and will be moaning for a tattoo as well , silly man the he is xxy

I agree that too many tattoos or tattoos that aren't very discreet can be unattractive, but i myself like tattoos. I really want to get a large one on my back but it will be covered up most of the time
