I find that on each reading of the bible I wonder more and more why people believe that stuff. It is odd to think that people take each word as the truth when there are so many inconsistances in the one book.

you know why people believed in the Bible? it is because it is the Word of God...everything written in that book is the way, the truth and the life...so please don't wonder, just read your Bible and have faith in that book because it is the Word of God...

As a Southern Baptist, I believe that each word in the Bible is the literal, God-breathed and inspired divine truth. I'm glad you're reading the Bible and seeking/searching! I try to read every day but need to do better. Life gets in the way sometimes, and it really shouldn't! There are plenty of things in the Bible that puzzle me and make me scratch my head, but I have been able to benefit from the wisdom of others in Bible studies in small groups and Sunday school. Might I suggest the same to you? I'm not holier than thou, just a simple sinner saved by His grace!

I guess you can lump me in with Michelle. I have to use the bible infrequently for some historical research and can be quite frustrated with its many inaccuracies and contradictions. There is the odd useful historical tool in it but i cannot imagine anyone would take it literally (althought I know they do) and use it as their guide to life. Although that does explain the problems generated by organized religion.

Thought it was obvious to most that I had read it, actually a few different versions of it. I wouldn't worry about my reading list, I assure you it is somewhat more extensive than yours.

I read the Bible every day. It is the word of God and no one should live without it. As for feelings, one cannot depend on it. All of us are sinners and we cannot blame God for our misfortunes or for not stopping us from whatever bad thing we did. We also cannot just think of the Bible as a reference book or say that the people in it never existed. You have to believe it is God's word.

It's been about three years since I've read my bible for one reason or another. When I did read, though, I had daily readings scheduled into my routine. My pastor had given me a study guide that encourged me to read my entire bible in a year and I managed to accomplish that goal. Since then, though, I haven't picked it up.
