Are you a Spender or a Saver?

In my group of friends there are people i'd define as Savers, and others i'd define as Spenders. Savers also spend of course, but they have a more conservative vision of things, so they always save a bit just in case. Spenders apply the Carpe Diem motto more, so they spend what they have available most of the time.
Under which of the two categories do you think you are? If you don't identify yourself in any of those, please explain how do you are in this aspect. thank you on advance.

I'm definately a saver, especially since i'm going to Uni in September. I've been working out my budget and it's going to be very tight! I put most of my salary in the bank and only really spend on things that i need, for example a Fathers Day present!

Well yeah, going to univ. is very expensive, specially in some countries. Here we got a cheap public system, which is good, but still you gotta watch out your expenses. Your idea of putting most of the salary in the bank seems to be a nice idea in your situation. Thanks for sharing linz :)

I think I am a saver more than a spender. I spend, but only on the necessary things like fuel, books etc. I never spend on things which I feel are not needed by me. So, ultimately I think I fall into the category of savers.

Does that mean you never permit yourself any luxury or whim?

Oh no, I use the luxuries of life but only till some extent. I meant to say that I am not a spendthrift. I never compromise on quality and always purchase the best. But what if I do not need something. I just think whether I am in need of any product before purchasing it.

Ah ok, now i understand what you're saying. And i agree with you that i'd never put the brand before the quality, it simply makes no sense. thanks for clearing it out.

I think I am in the middle. Maybe a bit more of a saver now than what I was before. But then again, at that time I could be a spender LOL
I do not go to extremes to save money, and I definitely do not compromise on food quality, but I pay attention to what i spend and how and avoid spending on things that are not too important.
WHen I want to buy something I compare prices and look for sales and I always think twice before a big expense.
I suppose the main difference is that I am not as impulsive in my buying habits now.

Yeah, impulsiveness is not a good idea when we're talking about spending money, unless you have so much that you don't really care LOL. I guess that with age we all slow down a little bit in everything, and we know better how to distinguish if something is really necessary or ill timed or not.

Present! :-), i'm the spender one. I don't know I just can't help spending whenever I have some in my pocket, but not in a sense that i'm spending it with things that are nonsense or useless so to speak, but once I spend my money it should goes with those useful things that I needed most. So, maybe that's why i'm spending so much because I have lots of needs LOL :-)

I am a spender when i save hadsome amount of money and i think that should be the ideal way of spending by securing your future
Because saving helps us to grow our money and speding will always reduce it
so my ideal advice is save more spend more... hey i maid a slogan

I'd definitely consider myself to be a spender! A big-time spender to be exact...I usually exceed beyond my limitations...I'm quite blessed that I never go broke because of my parents' support...I had to find a way to minimize my nasty habit...

i am definitely a saver... i always afraid of not having enough money... so i always try to save every penny of my money that i have and spend as little as i can... i always hunt for bargain and try to buy cheap but quality items... i never use up all my salary... i save some for rainy days in case something happened... but most importantly, i don't depend on my money but on God... because He is my sole provider and everything that i have belong to Him...

Hello lightnin, I used to be quite a spender especially when I got my first salary. I make sure though to set aside a portion in my bank.
However, I started to be a saver after having my girls. I prefer to have a backup which I can used in time of emergency and for my girl's future financial security.
I do indulge myself from time to time. If something catches my eyes especially when it is a little expensive, I don't plunge ahead and buy right on the spot. I need some time to think thoroughly before making my decision.

Well i guess it's normal that when you get your first salaries you spend a bit more than normal....after all you begin to make money and you want to enjoy it...I don't see that as something bad as long as you rechannel that into a more balanced attitude when that first moment passes, which is what you seem to have been able to do, for which im glad. Thanks for replying.

Hi, LightninStrike, I do not spend but if I want to have things of my liking, I will not hesitate to purchase immediately. Those purchases are being done by me once in a blue moon. By nature I do not like to spend money on sundry things.

I am a saver than a spender. When I was younger, then I was a spender. After I had a job, then I realized that it was not easy to earn the money. You work so hard but the paid is so less. Especially right now I have my own child, I am economic much more. I have to save money for his future.

Im a spender on only two things. First one is the FOOD and the second one is the ELECTRONICS. I just really love them and want to get the latest of them asap. This is where I spend the money. As I dont have any other habits such as smoking, drinking, etc.. , I dont spend money on them anyway.
Apart from these, I do a lot of savings too for my family and future. So I cant clearly define myself as either a saver or spender. I fall in both the categories. ;)

Ah man, you know I would love to say that I am a saver. But alas, I am a spender. That's why I try to put some things into place like other savings accounts etc. where I can be sure that a portion of any income I make goes into there. Otherwise it might just be gone.

Well being a spender or a saver can be changed sometimes by our current mood, that's right. There are occasions in which you've been feeling bad and you just need to indulge yourself so you spend more...and in others you are more rational and save more.

I admit im a kind of person which is SPENDER!!!Hahahaha...Big letters because i am abig spender...when i have money i dont care about tomorrow.I dont save...Maybe because i can have money and i can work hard too...
But i am trying hard to change my attitude.Because i know, it is good to save and save. It can help when it comes to emergency needs.

Well i've always heard that there is an age for everything. Like, young people who get their first nice work usually spend some time spending it all, or most of it. I understand it, they've worked hard to get to where they are and they want to enjoy it a little bit before assuming a mortgage or kids.
I'm glad that you admit so openly that you are a big spender. thanks for your reply.

I think that there is difficult to define someone as saver or spender. Most of people around me are between of these. In my opinion,I belive that this is a generation problem in my country. All of people want to be a savers in the old day,but the young man always want to be a spender at the being time. They try their best to enjoy theirselves, and spend all of the money on what they want to do.

Well i know we're all in the middle of those two poles, the point is to which of the two are you closer. In your country i guess that it's normal that there are a lot of spenders nowadays after so many years of not being able to be so. I think i'd be a spender too.

I am under the category of Spender. How can I justify it? I've been working for 6 years now and the content of my ATM is only the paycheck for this month! See? And I pray to God that I'll be able to save some for the future just in case. Oh, I hope that I can do it. (cross-fingers) :)
