Telemarketers How Do You Deal With Them?

Telemarketers how do you deal with them? Do you screen your calls and just not answer? Do you take the time and listen to their little script? Are you nice? Are you sarcastic? I have to say I have tried it all. After they come to the first pause I often tell them how well they read. LOL At times I do not answer and they just keep calling. Or I will answer and when they ask for me I tell them I am not home. The latest and greatest is I let me boys get on the phone (they are 9 & 10) and they will act like a baby at first they start goooing and ga~ing then they will go into a full cry. LOL they usually hang up. Am I a bad Mom for letting them do this? They really have so much fun so I let them.

I asked them for THEIR phone number and ask if I can call them back. Off course they say "we can't do that", and I simply say, then don't call me. One time I asked them to hold and I put the phone down!!! 30 minutes later they were still on the line. NOW: I just don't answer the phone. If that important they can leave a message. If it's a number that I don't recognize, or unknown/private, I do not answer it.

No one that I know of likes a telemarketers. Because if you try to tell them you are not interested s lot of them get rude. I even had one of them tell me that they were not finished saying what they had to say. At that point I just hung up. Since I do have caller ID on my phone I just don't pick up any more. I know all the numbers of people who might call. Not just my friends phone numbers but doctors office, and hospitals numbers. All the numbers I need to know I do. So I just don't pick up. No you are not a bad mom for letting them do this.

I generally am nice the first time. I say no thank you and if they keep going with their script than I hang up. The local newspaper calls almost weekly and it gets irritating. I subscribed but never read it, so cancelled. Now they won't leave me alone and keep calling even when we tell them to take us off of their list. It really gets annoying.

ok im goin give u all the tip ya need being a ex telemarketer. all u have to do is ask them very nice to please take u off the list. thats it. all i ask is ya do it nice and leave out y don't u get a real job. not sure if u all know but telemarketing pays pretty well. its just stressful hearing jerks tell u all day to get a real job. only thing is when u do tell them to take u off the list its goin to take up to 3days before the computer takes u out the list. so don't chew the next person up that calls u. thats not helpin u out at all if i was to get that call then i'd put ur number rite back in the list as a hang up and u'd get the same call back in 10mins. so just be kind to the telemarketers there just doing there job.

Well since both of my parents have cell phones now and the only people that have their number is important people, they just turn their house phones on silent ringers. lol That way they still have a regular phone line but they don't have to hear the ringing. We also put their numbers on the DO NOT CALL list.

I dont like them, and sometimes i find them to be funny I mean they will say we were in your neighborhood and noticed you could use some new siding-OH REALLY I reply you were in our heighborhood wow thats weird because all the houses here are all brick so how can we need new siding? I know there is something called the national-do-not-call list in the usa and I have entered my number with them and now I dont get those calls, if perhaps a new company picks up my number I tell them im registered with the national - do - not call -list they say thank you and hang up and I never hear from them again.

I hate tele marketers! I usually start by telling them I have a private number and within 2 seconds they hang up as they are not allowed to call private numbers without permission, I really like your idea about letting the children answer them phone, it made me laugh, might have to try that one day

There is nothing better than having a bit of fun with telemarketers. if they are going to interrupt your dinner or the wonderful evening you've planned by calling and trying to sell you a time share or a new credit card with a smart chip(which they really don't know why it is smart, by the way)- the least you can do is make it fun for you. I am usually nice to them but I do mean things in the background, like flushing the toilet and making fart noises over the phone. It really amazes me how with some people nothing really seems to phase them at all. I got into a fake argument with my wife for fun once during the call and this guy just kept on reading away apparently unaware that I wasn't listening. On and on like a robot. I would hate that job.

I used to be a telemarketer, so i try to be nice. I hated when people let me get through the whole thing just to say no. I preferred people to either say right away no, or even just hang up. then I could move on. I know now I try to do that, but sometimes they won't take no for an answer. I just say again.. I am not interested, please remove my name from your calling list, and then hang up. If the same people call again I tell them I was to be removed from their list and they are in violation of the law. That usually gets rid of them.

I don't have a house phone, we each have our own cell phones, but if someone calls and I don't recognize the number I won't answer, I let it go to my voicemail. Telemarketers rarely leave messages though.

Telemarketers are the reason why I don't like giving out my number. They just can't understand NO! I do understand that they are just doing their job, but they have to respect the person's decision and right to say NO. Thing is, after you say no to someone, another person from same company will call you again. What I do is I tell my bank, credit card company, etc. not to give out my number to 3rd parties of any marketing group.
