A wonderful family lost their 16 year old son to cancer this past Sunday. He was diagnosed in April. He was only able to make it 2 months. I am not really close with the family. My son was in his sisters 1st grade class, and I met his Mom that way. They are just a really great family. At the high school they have a big rock that they allow the kids to paint, and a fence that they decorate. Well they have it all decorated for Sam and it makes me cry every time I go past it. My thoughts have been consumed with what they must be feeling right now. I don't know what to say or what to do. I guess it is because I am a Mother. But could you please pray for Sam's family. Or if you do not pray can you please give them positive thoughts. Thanks and I hope you have a great day!

Dear Heavenly Father we come before you asking that you give this family peace that they need during this time of loss of their son. May they lean on your understanding. Give them the stregnth to carry on with their lives. May they hold tight to the good memories of their son, especially when they are feeling down. These things we ask and pray in your precious name Lord Jesus. Amen

God Bless You for actually listing your prayer online here for all of us to share in. I never thought to do that as I just said a small silent prayer to God to bless this family and help them cope with such a trgedy.

You are welcome. I try to do this when someone is asking for prayer. So that others can share in it. And as they are reading through the discussions it is prayed again.

Of course my thoughts and prayers are with this family. I could never imagine feeling the loss of a child. I could not even bare to think of losing one of my own children. It is a sad situation to be in, and I hope and pray they will be able to come out of this. Please send them my prayers and best wishes.

The loss of a child is most devastating and really what is there to say. My neighbors lost their oldest daughter over the winter. She was engaged to be married and was getting ready for work when she just fell over. She had a hidden heart condition. They are still numb from the loss. I feel much the way you do; at a complete loss for words. I finally caught up with the mom at a school function and we just hugged each other. It made her happy just to know that people were still thinking about her. In the meantime I am sending out positive thoughts.

I can't even begin to imagine the pain they must be going thru. It is hurting me just thinking about it, the loss of a 16 year old. Just at the time in his life when he should be the happiest and had his whole future ahead of him. I've just said a prayer and will continue to pray for his family and friends.

not knowing the family makes it hard to help them go through this pain.. because they won't accept help of strangers at this point ( I believe) because they are in a diffensive position, however our prayers are with them.. let God make it easier on them and takes good care of who's left..

This family just had prayers siad for them. I will be sure that I remind my daughters to pray for them too. I can't imagine losing a loved one that fast and esp. at that age. My daughter is 16 and it would be devastating to us as a family to lose her to such a horrible disease.
Thank you for sharing this story with us and reminding us how precious our children are.

How devastating this must be. I have 3 daughters, all adults with children of their own but I can't imagine what I would feel if I lost one of them. I think the only positive thing I can think of in this situation is that the poor child did not live and suffer very long after his diagnosis. I will say a quiet prayer for them .

Hi friends! Just want to share this beautiful story for everyone to reflect....
THis is beautiful! Try not to cry...
She jumped up as soon as she saw the surgeon come out of the operating room. She said; "How is my little boy? Is he going to be all right? When can I see him?"
The surgeon said, "Im sorry. We did all we could. but your boy didn't make it". Sally said,"Why is little children get cancer? Doesn't God care any more? When were you God, when my son needed you?" The surgeon asked, "Would you like some time alone with your son? One of nurse will be out in a few minutes, before he's transported to the university". Sally asked the nurse to stay with her while she said goodbye to son. She ran her fingers lovingly through his thick red curly hair. "Would you like a lock of his hair?" the nurse asked. Sally nodded yes, The nurse cut a lock of the boy's hair, put it in a plastic bag and handed it to Sally. The mother said, "It was Jimmy's idea to donate his body to the University for study, He said it might help somebody else."I said no at first, but Jimmy said, "Mom, I wont be using it after I die. Maybe it will help some other little boy spend one more day with his mom." She went on, "My Jimmy had a heart of gold. Always thinking of someone else. Always wanting to help others if he could". Sally walked out of Children's Mercy Hospital for the last time, after spending most of the last six moths there. She put the bag with jimmy's belonging on the seat beside her in the car. The drive home was difficult. It was even harder to enter the empty house. She carried jimmy's belongings and the plastic bag with the lock of his hair to his son's room. She started placing the model cars and other personal things back in his room exactly where he had always kept them. She laid down across his bed and hugging his pillow, cried herself to sleep. It was a round midnight when Sally awoke. Laying beside her in the bed was a folded letter. The letter said:
"Dear Mom, I know you're goin to miss me; but dont think that I will ever forget you or stop loving you, just 'cause I'm not around to say "I LOVE YOU". I will always love you, Mom, even more with each day, Someday we will see each other again. Untill then, if you want to adopt a little boy so you wont be lonely, that okey with me. He can have my room and old stuff to play with. But, if you decide to get a girl instead, she probably wouldn't like the same thing like a boys do. You'll have to buy her dolls and stuff girls like, you know. Don't be sad thinking about me, this really is a neat place. Grandma and Grandpa met me as soon as I got here and showed me around some, but it will take a long time to see everything. The angels are so cool, I love to watch them fly. And, you know what? Jesus doesn't look like any of his pictures, Yet, when i saw Him, I knew it was Him. Jesus himself took me to see God! And guess what, Mom? I got to sit on God's knee and talk to him, like I was somebody important. That's when I told Him that I wanted to write you a letter, to tell you goodbye and everything. But I already knew that wasn't allowed. Well, you know what Mom? God handed me some paper and His own personal pen to write you this letter. I think Gabriel is the name of the angel who is goin to drop this letter off to you. God said for me to give you the answer to one of your questions you asked Him "Where was He when I needed him?" God said He was in the same place with me, as when His son was on the cross. He was right there, as He always is with all His children. Oh, by the way, Mom no one else can see what I've written except you. To everyone its just a piece of paper. Isn't it cool? I have to give God His pen back now. He needs it to write some more names in the Book of Life. Tonight I get to sit at the table with Jesus for supper, I'm sure the food will be great...
Oh, I almost forgot to tell you, I dont hurt anymore. The cancer is all gone. Im glad because I couldn't stand that pain anymore and God couldn't stand to see me hurt so much, either. Thats when He sent The Angel of Mercy to come to get me. The Angel said I was a Special Delivery! How about that?
Signed with Love from God, Jesus and me..."

I am reminded about the statue of Pieta. Jesus's lifeless body in the arms of his mother. It is a heart-breaking scene. When I see this happening again in the life of that wonderful family, I bow down in reverence and ask God to strengthen that Dad and Mom. May they continue to trust, hope and love. Their sons demands it.
