They Won't Surrender Standoff Continues In New Hampshire http://www.thebostonchannel.com/news/13519156/detail.html BOSTON -- A New Hampshire couple convicted of tax evasion and sentenced to jail said Monday that they won't surrender to authorities. Ed and Elaine Brown were convicted of federal tax evasion in January. They did not appear in court for their sentencing, where they were ordered to serve five and a half years in prison. They have remained in their heavily fortified home in Plainfield, N.H., since April. During a news conference outside the Browns' home, Ed Brown said that if officials move in, "we're dead. That's it." Ed Brown dismissed the police as "mercenaries" and the media gathered for the press conference as "order-takers." He said law enforcement officers were using the excuse of just following orders as they engaged in a waiting game with the Browns. "All police officers today in this nation are mercenaries," he said. "They are all guns for hire." "For many years, many thousands of people have been asking the (Internal Revenue Service) to show them the law requiring the average American to pay tax on the fruits of their labor," said Elaine Brown. "They have never done so." Ruby Ridge survivor Randy Weaver, whose wife and son were killed along with a deputy U.S. marshal in the Idaho standoff in 1992, joined the Browns. Weaver held up a picture of his wife and daughter during the press conference. "When they shot her, she was holding my youngest daughter, when they shot my wife through the head," Weaver said. "I'm not afraid of dying no more. I am kind of curious about the next life." Weaver said that the situation in Plainfield was a similar situation to Ruby Ridge. "This is why I am here. If this gets out of control, this is going to happen here. I'd rather die on my feet right now with good American people than live on my knees. This is serious stuff. Bring it on," Weaver said. Weaver said that he knows the situation that the Browns are in and that he supports them 100 percent. "Being an atheist, I am praying for a miracle that some common sense will prevail," Weaver said. Officials have said that there are no plans to try to take the Browns by force and that they are trying to encourage the couple to surrender. I'm so sorry, but I have ZERO SYMPATHY. As someone who works hard and pays my taxes every year, these losers should turn themselves in and serve their time. Their standoff is WASTING MORE TAX PAYER DOLLARS by forcing federal investigators to stake out their house. GROW UP, BE RESPONSIBLE. PAY YOUR FREAKING TAXES. They are making a mountain out of a mole hill and have GUARANTEED at this point that they can not avoid jail. They are ASSUMING that the FBI or whomever is there to kill them. GET REAL PSYCHOS! You committed a crime, you need to go to jail. What makes YOU ABOVE THE LAW? NO sympathy. These people don't deserve any attention. Lock them up, and let them pay their dues, because they obviously don't know how to pay taxes.

YOU ARE WRONG...Read the IRS CODES paying federal income tax is voluntary not mandatory. There is NO LAW that states that you have to pay income tax. If you find one please let me know and you will win $50,000 and offer that was made years ago that is still open. Why? Because there is no law!

Well, I hope that they will pretty soon before something bad happens somehow. That is just terrible, why can't they just turn themselves in already and get it over with? It will be less painful in the end.

Seem like every few years there's some group of people who claim they don't have to pay taxes. I don't know where they get this idea from, but refusing to pay taxes will definitely get you put in jail. And they refused to appear in court, and called all police mercenaries. Sounds like they *want* a confrontation. I think these people should just pay their taxes and be done with it. By creating a standoff with authorities, they're just wasting the hard-earned tax dollars of OTHER citizens, who are paying for the police presence, court costs, etc. Sorry, but I don't have sympathy for people like this.

Well, since they're defying the U.S. government, IRS officials are involved, and probably the FBI and maybe U.S. marshalls. So these people ARE wasting Federal tax money with their pouting. Many local and state services are funded at least in part by subsidies they receive from the Federal government. Since these people are refusing to pay Federal tax, in my opinion they therefore have no right to expect to receive benefits from paying that tax--social security, medicare, medicaid, etc.

When the people who worked for the IRS tell you about them and how they are taking your money illegally, you still want to give them your money? And this money does NOT pay the salry of the police. That is paid by the STATE from property tax and state tax. You pay a tax on every dollar you spend in every state . Some pay more than others like in Florida we only pay 7 cents on a dollar and in Tennessee they pay 9.5 cents on every dollar. There is a difference between government and state tax.

Actually, why shouldn't these people just go to jail as everyone else would have to if they were in trouble for the same thing. It seems as though these two think that if they hole up in their home then they are somehow above the law and that they don't have to do what the authorities are. Police officials are hired to protect and serve but they have to use force when it is needed. Like someone else asked, who do atheists pray too?

I have no sympathy at all all the restof us Americans pay our taxes so why should they be exempt. They do not have my support at all. They have a slanted view of our police. here in my town I much admire our police officers and have never found them anything but helpful. lert the browns dig up the money and pay their taxes like all the rest of hard working Americans. I am sure thereare lots of mylotters who wish that they did not have to pay taxes yet they do. why are the Browns different? Let them pay their time in prison. you cannot do the time then do not do the crime. simple right?

I have no sympathy for these people. They use the roads fie department and other government departments the same as wee all do. They get their food inspected have gotten an education as is any children that they might or do have...This makes a lot of sense too “"Being an atheist, I am praying for a miracle that some common sense will prevail," Weaver said. If you don’t believe in God he won’t hear this prayer. This whole thing is just cray people doing crazy things.
