As promised to my friends - an update on Lily 3 months after.

Over the past weeks I've received many PMs and enquiries as to how Lily has been coping since we got her home 4 weeks ago. I didn't want to write too much about her because I was worried people would be bored with her, but just for those who are interested.............
Lily's recovery is very slow (probably much slower then anticipated), - but it is going in the right direction finally:-)) After being discharged from Hospital a month ago, she was only home a week before she had to go back into Hospital for a week again. Silly little beast was damaging her skin graft and her new leg by literally bashing it with the edge of her "buster" collar, and set up an infection...... The Vets said she was disorientated and confused to be back home, and had become "institunionalised" at the Hospital, which was causing her some problems. So she needed to be re-sedated and immobilised for a week to get things back to how they were before she came home. We got her home again 2 weeks ago, and, since then, have had no less than 5 emergency trips back to the Vets, when she has bruised her leg, cut her skin graft, and contracted yet another infection that is proving very resistant to antibiotics. To be honest I had no idea how difficult the whole thing would be.
But throughout it all, she still remains the feisty little madam she always was. She was terrified of her brothers at first, but now she's back to bossing them about, and although she now has to wear a padded collar with gauze over the front, she still tries to play, and takes every opportunity to try and "escape" through the cat flap at every opportunity. Her purr is still as loud as it ever was, and she still sleeps between us every night.
Here is a pic of her with one of her collars - not the one with her face covered because you can't see her pretty face in that one! Thanks to everyone who still cares enough to ask about her. I'm told she will get 100% in time - just will take a little longer than even the Vets thought - mainly because she is NOT a good patient and destroys all their good work!!!

LOL, rosie...bunny can't resist hopping in and drop a nice comment for Lily. Is it 3 months past already? Time passed by real quick and yet, I'm sure it was also 3 months of trying to stay sane worrying over Lily. I hope to see Lily in her best element again and up to purrriiinngg wildly. Keep us updated.

Yes, she looks like she would not take well to having to be told what she can and can not do! I am so glad that she is finally on the road to 100% recovery! Lily is very adorable and she looks to be a handful, too, I have never had to have a cat in one of those collars, but I am sure she is not happy with them. Good luck in the rest of her recovery, hopefully there will be no more set backs, and I hope this last infection gets taken care of. You are doing a great job with her, there are not many people out here in the world that would do what you have done for Lily. She is blessed to have you as a parent. And you are blessed that she is such a fighter and wanting to get better!

Oh dear I think we need to get Gissi to have a word with her lol
No seriously I am sorry the little one is doing this but I guess all Pets are the same as such I don't think that any of them like it and do more damage to themselves without realizing it so I just hope the little Madam will leave it now and heal

She sure isn't the easiest patient! She is wilful, single-minded and determined - and VERY bad-tempered when crossed - LOL! But her check-up appointments are down to once a week now (not once a day), - so we're gettig there. Thanks for your response.

Hehhe--cats rarely are "good" patients--My that Lily of yours has been through some ordeal...and so has her mom!! Now you tell Lily that she better behave herself and not have more trips to the vet...How much longer will she have to wear the padded collar? I can imagine it did take some adjustment for her to be home, and still will for awhile...but I'm glad to hear she's purring and sleeping with you at night... I bet she sure missed that while at the hospital. Thanks ever for the up-date...and this is one person who would never get tire of hearing about Lily. I'm still praying for her complete healing.

Thanks my friend. Well, the Vets thought she should have dispensed with the collar long before now, but everytime we remove it for any period of time (she obviously has to have it removed for eating and grooming etc), she tries to attack her leg! So it will probably be a few more weeks until it is so completely healed that her biting and chewing won't damage it. She is actually making me laugh at the moment She's sitting on my partner's knee while he watches the Princess Diana Memorial Concert on TV - and he's kind of making her dance along to Elton John - very gently of course! Sounds silly but she's purring and having great fun:-))

At least the episodes haven't damaged her little sassy character. That sass is always a great sign of a survivor.
I'm really glad you have her home and she's feeling better.

Yes - the Vets say she would not have survived so long without her strength of character! Sometimes it's a little too stron though! Thanks for your response.

I'm glad you have kept us up to date and even though it has been a slow process she is making a recovery and is back to her normal self.
I have been away for a month finishing my degree so it was good to hear the news.
Take care and I wish you all the best. x

I have been curious to know how she was- I just figured you had your hands full and would let us know when you had some time to type. From that picture you would never know she had been sick... she looks pretty wide eyed and bushy tailed to me. Glad to hear she is doing better and believe me I know how hard it is to have your baby being sick and hurting... Buca is finally aloud out and seems to be okay so far- but I just have a feeling that before the summer is out he will have done something else to himself...silly boy that he is.
Kisses and hugs to Lily- and lots of prayers for a speedy recovery.

Glad Buca is feeling a bit better - hugs and kisses back to him

You all have certainly been throught the mill. I hope you can see the end in sight soon because you've all been through enough coping with this disaster. It's about time you all are able to enjoy some serenity...'cept for the brothers of course...lol.
It's so nice to see such love, care and devotion spent on our beloved pets, you are a credit to all pet lovers/owners and a great example. Thankyou once again for sharing Lily's life with us.

Hi Rosie---
Rain here again...(Don't tell ma I'm being a laptop kitty again).
We're very glad to hear that Miss Lily is doing better and we're really sorry that her skin graft itches sooooo much.
When I had my tummy fixed, Ma had to yell at me all the time so I wouldn't eat my stitches. They gave me a round the clock kitty sitter...It was so embarrassing!
I'm sure Miss Lily doesn't mean to be a bad patient, it's just so hard to be good. You want to lick it and clean it up and of course she wants to see how her new fur looks...Do you know what color she's going to be yet? The new parts I mean.
Please tell Miss Lily to stay inside. The big horrible world is what got her into this in the first place...
We will never tire of hearing about your miracle kitty...jut keep loving her :)

Hello Rain:-)) This is your friend Lily - but I'll have to be quick because Mummy doesn't know I'm on the computer - if she did she would probably stop me doing that, like she stops me doing everything else that's fun:-(( As you ask about my new leg, - here is a picture that Mummy took yesterday, and you will see my new fur (the back leg on my left hand side. It is dark grey tabby, while all my other legs are white! I think it looks very pretty - makes me stand out from the crowd. You se Mummy does let me take my collar off sometimes - to eat and clean - but then I just have to lick that lovely new fur, so I have to have it back again:-((
Nice to hear from you again,
Love,
Lily

Glad to hear she is on the mend and back home and still has her leg, I hope the good progress continues and she can get that collar off soon, they do hate them so. I bought one when my cats were spayed luckily I didn't have to use it, the cats wouldn't let me put it on anyway.

Oh Rosie, that is wonderful news! I was so happy to hear it and hope that Lily's recovery will happen sooner rather than later. If it weren't for you and your efforts to get her the proper medical attention, Lily would never have made it. Congrats to you and Lily! Somehow, I knew that she would make it in spite of everything! :-)

i love hearing about your beautiful little kitty. i think about her a lot and wonder how she is doing. i am glad that things are going in the right direction, even if it is realy slowly. The fact that her purr is loud and she sleeps between you and your husband is a really good sign. At least you know she loves you and she knows you love her. That makes a huge difference.
