It depends. I learned the hard way not do do it too much. We loaned my son $700 a couple of years ago to fix his car. He never paid us back. So I guess that was just an expensive gift. I have lent money to my son-in-law and he did pay it back. After a hard lesson I try not to lend money to family. Funny, I'd almost rather lend money to a stranger, since I got burned by my son.

Only if I have the money and have enough for me to live off until I get more money, then I do not see why not at all.

I used to lend money to my friends when they asked, but I found that it could put a tremendous strain on friendships, especially when your friends do not always pay you back when promised. If I were to be paid back all of the money that I have loaned to friends in the past, who never paid me back, I would be a couple of thousand dollars richer. I know that I will never see much if any of this money since these loans were so long ago. I will not worry about ever collecting from these friends, and I will not hold these debts against them, but I have learned my lesson. I may loan a friend a couple of dollars if there is a good enough reason, but I would rather not loan money at all.

I am in a tight financial situation myself. If somebody ask me for help financially, I would try whatever I could do to help that person. It would not be the amount of money they ask for, but I would actually give it to that person who is in need.

im not selfish but i've had enough of lending money to friends or family for it all ends up to "thank yous" (they never pay).
