Do You Wash Dishes As they Get Dirty--Or Do You Let Them Pile Up?

Hehehe--okay confession time...do you wash your dirty dishes as they get dirty, like wash the breakfast dishes after breakfast, lunch ones after lunch, and dinner dishes after dinner? Or do you let them pile up and just wash all of them at once? I usually wash mine as they get dirty, but I confess to being lazy and figure, oh, what the heck and just wash them all at once after dinner.

When I was living with my mom growing up, we always washed the dishes after every meal. We washed dried and put them away. Now that I have my own house, well thats a different story.lol. I am very lazy when it comes to the dishes. Sometimes I don't do them for a few days. I make sure everything gets rinsed off after it is used so there is nothing gross growing on them. And I never dry them, I just put them in the dish drainer. I am so bad when it comes to the dishes.

Heheh--I was quickly scanning some of the responses here...it seems you and I are in the minority as most people wash dishes right away--LOL--I of course make sure my cats' dishes are clean though...think I'd get nasty looks if THEIR dishes were dirty..LOL

oh i hate a sink full of dishes! i hate the "hidden mess" that ppl leave under the top dish..like food still on the plates/bowls (that just drives me nuts) so i do dishes about 4 times a day id say. once after i get up and everybody has eaten breakfast, once after everybody has eaten lunch. once before dinner or as im cooking dinner. once after dinner after everybody is done. LOL and then whatever is in there before i go to bed. so thats 5 times a day LOL. well better 5 times for only 2 or 3 minutes, then 1/2 hour with a full sink!

yes i am the main cook. and even though i have heard that saying (even by someone in my household) i havent seen it in action lol. someone will say "you made dinner so i will do the dishes" but that never does seem to happen! drives me nuts when i get into the kitchen the next day to find all the dishes still in there..and now theres food 'cemented" in place..yuck. so i just do them myself.

Are you the main cook in the house? Reason I ask, my great-grandmother had a saying.."Good cooks don't do dishes.." LOL Of course...maybe it was something she said to get out of washing them...

i love washing dishes and cleaning the kitchen. i usually clean dishes as soon as we finish eating. but there are times when i feel that i am the only one usually washing it without anyone helping me so I don't wash them sometimes.

They definitley get washed as they are dirtied. I have my dad trained real well with that.Even if it's just a glass,it's immediately washed and put up. I confess to being a neat freak and dishes in the sink drives me nuts-although my dad would say I don't have very far to drive, lol

i am so very obsessive compulsive that i wasjh dishes and utensils immediately after use even if there's just one dish to wash. i get so irritatted when housemates don't do the same thing.

Okay, now it the time for me to admit how much of a neat freak I am. Although I might not do the dishes every time I use a dish throughout the day, I will make sure that all the dishes are done before going to bed. It was an old rule in my parents house that they could not sleep until the kitchen was spotless and clean, dishes were washed, and garbage taken out. Those habits still stick with me.

usually we keep the counter and sink free of dishes, they seem to be in the dishwasher at all times, dirty and clean. constantly changing.

First of all I don't have a dishwasher (in my building I'm lucky I have a sink) so I need to do it all by hand and I can't explain why but after I cook I can not sit down to eat unless I do the pots and pans first. Then I sit down to eat and all that is left to do are the plates and forks etc. I don't know why I do this but it is a habit already that I can't break.

Oh I hate washing up and once I could afford to I brought myself a dishwasher, I've got a tiny kitchen, so brought a table top one - now the arguements are whose going to fill it and empty it *sigh* Because I don't like being wasteful I wait until it's full before I put it on, but at least it's out of sight lol!

I try to wash them as soon as I have enough to run the dishwasher. My wife leaves this job to me. She hates doing dishes. When we were dating, before living with one another, I would show up at her apartment and she would beg me to do her dishes. I was so glad when we got a dishwasher.

I'm a piler-upper. I think a part of me is still dreaming that maybe-just maybe someone else will do them for once, so I wait, just ot see. Never happens.

Oh yes, If my kitties could do house work, my house should be spotless. I have 20 plus kitties! Not all in the house, but they all would be, if they could clean it for me. lol

hey there.. I can't stand to see the dishes piled up. Even if it's a single glass or single spoon in the sink, I'd still wash it anyway. :) I can't stand it. Also, as soon as the dishes on the drying rack are dry, i put them away immediately. After all at home, if I let them pile up, it would still be waiting for me anyhow. It's not like anyone else will do it. lol!

Hmmmm - that is usually one of my favorite "I gotta get offline" jokes. Usually my way of leaving a chat or telling people in IM that I have to go is to tell them "My dirty dishes are piled up to the ceiling." In all seriousness, it does save water to do all of them in one shot than doing one dish or one set at a time. In the case of a dishwasher (I don't have one.) it is more efficient to do a full load in that than a few at a time. Even though you may not realize it, doing a larger pile does take less total time than doing two separate smaller piles twice.

So, we don't have a dishwasher, it is broken, like most everything else in this house and of course it is last on the list to get fixed since we have so many other important issues, so I am the head dishwasher (wait, the only dishwasher) of the house and I have always found it easier to wash as I go, after every meal and probably a couple of times other than that a day. With 3 kids and 2 adults to clean up after, I have found it eaiser to do it this way.

I usually let my dishes pile up, until I have no more clean dishes to eat off of. I guess I'm just lazy like that. :) Would be better if I had a dish washer, but I don't. :(

*sigh* i try to keep on them.the operative word here is try.my family has a capacity of making new dishes faster than anything i've ever seen. however.they didn't do it.it wasn't them. so,obviously,i have magic sink leprechauns in there making dishes.i suppose they were the ones who ate the last of the foods and put back an empty box too.

If there's one thing I cannot abide, it is a sink full of dirty dishes, pyewacket! I have often gone to the homes of one of my adult daughter(whom I won't mention by name), and there are always double sinks of dirty dishes. So, the first thing I do is start the dishwater running so that I can clean up all the mess. It doesn't bother some people, but it really bothers me. I think it goes back to my childhood when I wanted to wash dishes so badly, but could not reach the sink. My uncle finally got tired of my whining and made me a little stool to stand on so that I could finally wash dishes. I've been loving it every since.

I always wash dishes after use and I always tell the people in my house that they should wash dishes after use. I dont want to wait dishes to pile up because it will add more work and more time..
