Football here in Australia, is also with a oval football and a oval oval. But our rules and style of playing are very different to your football. It use to confuse me greatly as a child when someone would say football and mean soccer.lol We have to kick through goal posts. Four posts and the two middle ones are the goals and the two end ones are points.

Wow ..Four posts and two middle ones? How does one win. Do you play by quarters? Do you have touchdowns?

If you kick the ball through the middle poles you get a goal which is worth 6 points and either of the side poles you get a point. It is a great game which I must admit Im addicted too but the rules are quite difficult but I have been watching the game all my life so if you are interested I have a link for you http://www.germworks.net/afl/ thankyou littlefrancisin.

I'm not an expert, but I learned that all variants of football in the world originated in Great Britain. There we have Rugby Football or rugger (oval ball) and Association Football or soccer (round ball). American footbal, australian football (and maybe some other variant I haven't heard of) are originated in Rugby Football. Association Football is what in most countries is called just football. In the same way that in USA soccer is played mainly at highschools and colleges, rugger is played here at highschools and in a non profesional way.

Thanks for the very excellent explanation of what you understand football to be that is rugby football. How many goal posts are in rugby football.

It seems that when trying to discuss sports with everyone around the world, football is one of the most confusing. What many in other countries consider football, we Americans call soccer. I do wonder what name they would use for what Americans consider football.
I believe that there is a sport similar to what Americans call football that is called rugby. It is similar to what in the USA is called football, but the players do not wear helmets or have all that padding on them.

Our of the United States your football is called american football or, in Latin America "fĂștbol norteamericano". In South America, or at least in Uruguay, is not played, so there is not much confusion. Rugby football (the one played without helmet and padding, as you mentioned) it is played, but in a non professional way.

The game of football is a favorite one in our country . The name of the game is FOOTBALL and not SOCCER. There are many small-time football groups even in the remote village ares . The game has great public appeal though we have not many good teams to boast of in particular.

Football is the game of life, the game that combine technic, speed, determination, spirit and the dignity. Football in mycountry is just the same like football in Europe and Soccer on US. It's definitely the most popular game in this country, Indonesia. Shamely with our 250 million lives, we never go to World Cup Final

These people are foot ball crazy. Some of them just go nuts during foot ball season....they make it more important then it should be....in some cases, it even causes divorces because you cant speak to some of these people at all when foot ball is on the television....

Football?
Well it's a game of two half, it's a battle of skill, passion and determination. It's when two sides of elven go together and only one team can come off as the better side, the fans fully behind they giving even more passion. The pitch is the battle field and the goals are the castle, footballs not just a game here.
It's life.

hi,
well,in my country,my proudest land,India,we every time call it football.it is played as usual with a round shaped ball having radius about 8cm.it is made of rubber and some polymers of rubber and partially with leather.here,in India cricket is religion.but football is the 2nd lovable game.ours fifa ranking is somewhat nearly 120.i know that's not at all good.but i hope that we will play the fifa world cup 2014 or may be in 2018.give us hope and courage.
personally,i prefer europian football and the matches played by argentina,Italy,Manchester United and in my country i support East Bengal.3 cheers for east bengal.
