You know how it goes. You've heard something for most of your life and take it for granted. All of a sudden, you hear it again, but it takes on a deeper meaning and you think, "Well duh!" That happened to me today. "Love your neighbor as yourself." Can you actually imagine how different our world would be if we all did that? We would actually talk to our neighbors and be friendly. We would be kind and considerate to everyone and try to be helpful to each other. There would be no stealing or murder or assault. There wouldn't be cheating or lying or anyone suing anyone else. There would be honesty and respect. There would be no child abuse. Oh my gosh! Would we even have prisons anymore? Interesting to think about, isn't it...

I had a very duh moment once, it was quite long ago. Very different kind of duh. I turned to my friend and was like, you know what?
She was like... what?
I said: your ginger.
Indicating to her hair colour (not in an offensive way, it just kind of clung in my head and came out randomly)
She was like: After all these years... duh?
Made me happy.
Anyway, keeping on topic, it is interesting to think about, but there will never be world peace, or anything like that, as if everyone in this world would be considerate and not selfish.
(((Plus i dont like my neighbors))) Merely because they started on me, my family brought a dog, he was a puppy, so he barked alot of course. And well, we did try to stop him.
Then they broke our fence by getting their lil boy to kick a ball at it. Oh how the revenge will come ;) :)

I would think that this would be normal for you. The organized religion you are part of is on the need to know basis. Your understanding changes as you grow as a Christian. So yeah, there would be times as you age that a new way of understanding would occur to you.
My duh moments are when I try to speak and cannot think of the word needed. Then I hear it and duh (slaps forhead) I can make a complete thought.

What a world that would be. I would love to live in a more peaceful world. Will it ever be?

God created us out of love, and it really is sad to know that love is so hard to come by from the people he created. We have life, and all we are expected to do with our lives is to show love and compassion for everyone we come in contact with. So, yes, if everyone just showed each other respect and love, there would be no prisons, child abuse, stealing or murder. It just seems so simple to me.

Everybody has that kind of moment. When it happens a big wow! But its simply not. I think its the way life is. And those not so good things adds spice to our life sometimes. A priest preach in one of his homily that sometimes good for us are bad and sometimes what's bad for us is sometimes good.

"Love your neighbor as yourself" is, I think, one of the variations of the "Golden Rule", "Do unto others as you would have them do unto you."
Yes, if this was followed the world would be about 1000 times better than it is today.
This saying, in one form or another, is a part of the wisdom that is shared by all the major religions of the world. This is one the things that is good about religion about which everyone (well, almost everyone) can agree.
My own "DUH!" moments are too numerous and embarassing to go into.

It is from the New Testament. It is the 2nd greatest commandment told by Jesus.
Matthew 22:36-39
New International Version (NIV)
36"Teacher, which is the greatest commandment in the Law?" 37Jesus replied: " 'Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.' 38This is the first and greatest commandment. 39And the second is like it: 'Love your neighbor as yourself.'

Yeah, I do that all of the times. I don't pay attention to most of the things that go around me sometimes and that moment happens every single time when I don't do that.

Ya know..that sounds good on paper. But in reality things will still go wrong in the real world. Think about all the couple who love each other. But still kill each other.

The only thing that I can add is that sometimes the reason people do not seem to love their neighbors is because they do not love themselves. They may spoil and indulge themselves, but not really love themselves, and so they do not love others, either. Happy Sunday thought, that we should practice that, and not just hear it. "Be ye doers of the word, not hearers only." Thanks for the reminder

If you listen to the news, you would think things are headed in the opposite direction and there is no hope for the world. I think we are headed in the direction as you talk about in this discussion. It may not seem like we are making progress because all you hear is the negative side of everything. But I for one envision a time on earth where this will be the way things are. And hopefully the news media will be out of business because there will be nothing bad to report.
