Do you pay your bills on line or do you still write checks?

It took me a long time to get away from writing checks out to pay my bills. I started using my bank to pay all my bills on line at the first of the year. It is so easy to do. Takes less time. Also with the price of stamps that keep going up, it is also a lot cheaper to pay the bills this way than writing a check and sending it in the mail.
So do you pay your bills on line or do you still write checks out and send them in the mail?

I also pay my utility bills online via my back account.Previously I had to go to a nearby bank and stand and wait in the line for my turn .This was sometimes very annoying as I got late for other things. Now it takes about 3-4 minutes each bill and that as well from my home :)

Hi Terri! I am still writing checks to pay my bills. My husband works for the Postal Service and I try to keep giving all of their workers as much service as possible to help with job security. Have a great day!

I can understand your reasoning behind this.

I don't have it set up where they automatically pay. I make payments through them.

I don't know if I'm just old-fashioned, but for some reason I still trust the mailman more than the internet. I knew someone who paid their bill online and it didn't make it on time even though she did it several days before the due date, mine ALWAYS makes it in 2-3 days thru the mail. I do have a few that come directly out of my bank, but most are by check.

It took me a long time to get to this point to pay on line. I too have several bills that come directly out of my checking account.

I would love to pay my bills on line because I feel that it is safer, quicker and cheaper. My parents won't let me pay them on line because they want to see if I paid my credit card bills properly. I always write out checks and send the statement back in the mail. The only time when I am allowed to pay my bills on line is when the bill statements are not mailed out to me in time.

I don't think I will want to write another check for credit card bills. Just too easy to pay on line!

We pay most of our bills online now. You are right, it is the quickest and easiest way to do it. There are still a few that have to be paid with a check though, like our rent for example.

Rent and water bills seems to be the ones so far that can't be paid on line.

I still write checks out to pay my bills. I know I am behind the times. I mean, even my parents pay the bills they can online instead of sending in a check. But even though sites are mostly secure, I like to have the paper statement in my hand, and be able to go from there.

I know it took me a long time to get to this point. Just like it took me a long time to start using a debit card. I started out paying a few bills on line like credit cards and cell phone, and then at the beginning of the year I gradually added the rest of them on through my bank to pay bills. It is so much easier.

I love paying bills online - not everyone has it available but if I can I do it. No worrying about stamps and how long/if it will get to the right person. I know right then and there it's there because it comes direct out of my checking account which I also check online regularly.

For the one's that don't offer an on line option, I use my bank on line to send them a check.

I pay my bills online, as you have said, it is a lot cheaper and more convenient. Also with fund transfers, going to the bank will cost me a little extra for bank charges, but when I do it online I will not be charged. So I believe banking online is a much better choice.

I recently switched to paying all my bills on line as well as doing all my banking online. I was a bit nervous putting so much personal data onto my computer and still am so afraid of identity theft for it'd ruin me. Still i have to admit it is so very much easier and faster. The whole process of writing checks, purchasing stamps and then remembering to mail them....how did i do it for so long?

I write checks and send them in the mail but online payment systems are very convenient and I probably will switch back to said payment systems in the future. Thanks for starting this topic! It is a great conversation piece.
